Time concessions in SAT's

Have been told by Senco my ds' s Neale test results and presumably NC levels are such that he doesn't qualify for extra time in SATs. Also no IEP.

Have just had Ed Psych. assessment which suggests SPLD x 2 ie. working memory in 11th percentile and High Order processing difficulty. He recommends extra time in SATs and scribe. Also that he should be on Action Plus with IEP and on SEN register. Senco doesn't know this yet as want to confirm with Ed Psych. it's ok to tell them this.

Basically he writing is painfully slow due to his processing and WM difficulties, but it is slowly improving with nurturing approach, but I can see the difficulty will never go away. Also mental maths is a problem.

Surely extra time doesn't just get allocated if you have a difficulty with reading?
The Senco knows about the WM problem already as that was done by the school EP. I asked EP to check processing and she didn't which is why I got an independent assessment done, because I felt she cherry picked and may have missed something. Surely the WM difficulty in itself is enough to get extra time?

Whether or not DC have a reader or scribe are are the discretion of the head teacher.

In order to qualify for extra time the school has to put in an application to the LEA - I think there are about 5 criteria that the child has to meet. See www.education.gov.uk/schools/teachingandlearning/assessment/keystage2/ks2tests/b00201106/additional-time/additional-time-tests/criteria-

You only have until Monday 25th February for the school to make the application. See www.education.gov.uk/schools/teachingandlearning/assessment/keystage2/ks2tests/b00201106/additional-time

DS1 would have qualified for extra time but the school did not make the application.

The deadline would only apply for this year's SATs if DS is already in year 6.

Senco has just agreed to put forward DS1 for extra time in SATS. He is currently Y5.
Senco said that if EP or PAed confirms that extra time is required then HT is unlikely to refuse. LEA will agree if EP or PAed combined with HT agree.
Can you get private EP report written up by PAed suggesting extra time?

Thanks for links.
Oh my goodness panic ! So have until midnight on Monday. It looks like he could qualify for a scribe. EP did check his words per minute (writing and it was low). He says his visual processing is less than 1st percentile ie. high order. I am shocked that they don't specifiy criteria more specifically.
He has non of the criteria in section A but may qualify for extra time under special concessions in Section B. However, I won't get written Ed. Psych. report
by Monday. What a shame, I suppose it is only SATS at the end of the day. He is not used to using a scribe and I believe it is an acquired skill. It says use laptop first, but I am sure his typing is not better than his writing speed.
