dancing around before a wee

dd2 has devoloped a habit/routine. She runs in yelling 'I NEED A WEE WEE' then runs up and down the hallway 3 times before going to the loo, then dances from one foot to the other.

this has resulted in many pairs of wet knickers in one day.

How do i break this?

LOL my dd has always made a palava out of going to the loo! i don't have advice i'm afraid except show little interest when she does it, i'm sure my dd did it for attention.

Her current habit is pretending to be really desperate whenever either me or dp are about to sit on the loo, so we jump off to let her on and then she skips of merrily and doesn't go for another half hour!

My niece does it too, and just needs a gentle reminder to "go to the toilet then!"

Obviously I don't know what special needs which may affect this issue which your DD2 has Misdee, but I understand (even from my limited experience!) that it's pretty common. I know I used to do it. I even recall an early "event" when it became too late to remind me I needed a poo

what happens if you stop her and take her to the toilet?

she dances in my arms. sometimes she carries on the running.

can you sort of hold onto her and guide her to the toilet still dancing?
and then sit her on it?

I don't think this is anything to do with special needs tbh. Mine still does this aged 5.5, she dances around hopping from one foot to the next before we tell her to go to the toilet. Rare now, but she still does have the occasional accident. Too lazy/distracted to go to the toilet on time. It's normal. They grow out of it and start to go on time. Her refusal is just defiance.

my 4 year old still does a little dance, sometimes she doesn't know she's doing it and I ask - do you need to pee? - oh yes mummy I do,and then she runs for the loo
think it's pretty common

its not just dancing from one foot to the other. its running up and down the all 3 times first. with a horrible 'eeeeeeeeehhhhhhhh' noise.

my 5 year old dd does the 'wee-wee dance' too. I have no idea why but she does. I have to really shout sometimes to get her to go to hte toilet. Tis normal!

tbh i would either steer her to the toilet, or pick her up and put her on it.

but then, i don't know much about her SN or whether that's the right approach

dd2 is being assessed atm. sometimes picking her up and taking her to the toilet works, other times, if she is extra stressed then i get hit.
