Statement meeting next week. Ds just had best SALT session ever. Panicking that it was too good!

I know that sounds crazy, but I'm sure you all know what I mean. We are going asking for full time 1-1 ( ds is 2.7, so this would be for 2 sessions of preschool ), ds can't speak at all, has just started signing, has horrendous separation anxiety, needs help physically, help with drinking and eating, has no interest in other children and doesn't like them playing near him. I have been unable to leav him at sn nursery, and the sn preschool won't let me stay so he is starting at a mainstream setting in April. The preschool have said they are happy for me to stay to settle him in, for as long as it takes, and the learning disability nurse who is working with us, has said this could take up to a year.

This morning ds was playing with his key worker, signing, following simple instructions and generally being an absolute delight, the only time he freaked out was when 2 other children came over to play and he grabbed his fire engine, buried his head in my chest and punched himself. (He headbangs and hits himself).

The Salt was doing a session with him today, and talked about him as though he was a different boy to the one she usually sees, and I am now worried that she is going to base her reports for next week on the minihazey she saw today.

It's daft, I should be over the moon that he had such a good time at nursery and seemed so happy, but instead I'm panicking that she is not seeing a true picture.

Don't worry, it's not just about Salt. One of the main things is safety, I imagine your ds cannot be left aline for his own safety and safety of the other children ( as my ds) so just stress that.

How is the preschool going to secure the 1-1? Are they applying for some special funding? Our preschool first paid 1-1 out of their own budget and then Premium funding was secured.

I don't really know where the funding is coming from, I assumed from the LEA? There should be 12 people at the meeting next week, but SALT seems to be key because of being non verbal, she did say today that he definitely needs a statement.

I feel sick thinking about it, on Monday we are finding out results of an ecg, when ds will have a ct scan of his lungs and when they are going to do a full sleep study for sleep apnoea and then the meeting on Wednesday - I will be very glad to get next week out of the way!

Busy week next week! Why don't you just apply for statement? If Salt is supportive, then your LEA might be as well.

This is partly for statement and partly his TAC. It is a new statementing process which is being piloted in this area.

Oh I see the title again, sorry, too tired today.

Really don't worry it l

... It looks as you have all the right support with statement and that's great. Just find out how will they fund 1-1 until statement is issued.
