Can I just give a big smiley yay for ds, for making my day yesterday.

Ds missed a whole term of sn nursery last term, because of his chest. We went in yesterday, and as per usual, he cried and screamed and hid in my chest and refused to look at anyone.

Then, an hour into being there, he sat on my lap to look at a book about a fire engine ( I think this is the only thing he likes about nursery!) his key worker came over, and he hid a bit, but eventually started to point to things in the book, and then signed 'more' and so we read it again, and then he signed, 'hungry' so she went to get him a biscuit, and he signed,'thank you'!

He has never signed once at nursery, and has only just started signing at home, so for him to do it there, without any prompting, was just so huge.

It has been a shit couple of months, but to see that despite him having been so tired and poorly, he has progressed like this, it was just lovelySmile

Hope no-one minds a bit of boasting!

How lovely. And what a polite boy with his 'thank you' :)

I think signing is wonderful - I also think it can be less intimidating to sign something than to say it in many circumstances, so hopefully being able to sign will help your DS feel confident about communicating at nursery soon.

thankyou for letting me have a boast.

He has come on so much with signing, although a lot of the signs he has made up (so if he wants to watch The Wizard of Oz - his favourite film, he does this little march on the spot!) and some are difficult to understand but he really tries to communicate. It is amazing.
