Anyone else's dc (ASD) prefer school to the hols? It's back to school after half term today and he's so much happier :-) Good obviously in one way but it makes me sad the hols aren't relaxing for him really...

No sorry, we are the opposite, Dd3 loves being at home. Sometimes she asks what we are doing but generally we plan one thing a day some short and some longer. The rest of the time she is happy to mooch around the house.

I find getting her back to school really hard.

Ds1 definitely prefers being at school and is, on the whole, a much happier boy during term time.

He really misses not just the structure of school but being engaged and occupied throughout the day. Being an ABA school he gets 1:1 attention at all times too, which does make it pretty hard for us to compete with!

It is sad in a way, but I try not to take it personally! And I suppose if I had to choose I'd rather he was happier at school as that's where he spends the majority of the year, and needs to be happy and motivated in order to learn. And it reassures me what a fab school we fought to get him into!
