If I start the SA and dd is diagnosed during the process can I update them so that it is taken into consideration?

Yes. You can submit fresh evidence and you might want to say at the outset that you may need to do this.

The SA process is based on need and not diagnoses so you don't need to wait to get the process going as it can take some time.

Thank you very much I plan on getting it started in the morning first thing im going to ask the school to write a letter as they have refused to take dd. Second im going to ask Portage to write a letter.

Would a letter of dd 1:1 support worker in play group who feels dd wont cope with mainstream help?

Yes. Get all the evidence you can together and look at the SEN COP here so you are familiar with the criteria.

You can set out headings for all those areas where your child has difficulties e.g. communication, behaviour, physical/sensory, cognitive and learning and then describe, with reference to your evidence, why she needs a statutory assessment.

Do you think a diagnosis is likely and how long will you have to wait for it?

I have a appointment next Tuesday with CAHMS which is the last professional dd needs to see. She has seen all the other HCP and they all seem to think she has ASD so it could be quick but it could be longer. I just dont know.

You could flag up that she is likely to get a diagnosis or you could wait a few days and see what they say on Thursday.

It is such a stressful time waiting for the diagnosis even when you know what it is.

Thank you, you are so right about waiting for diagnosis being stressful. I personally have found the diagnosis dla claims and statutory assesments harder to deal with than the actual illness itself Sad.

I know exactly what you mean and 3 years later, identifying and securing the right help is still the hardest part of dealing with DS!
