IgA and IgG are both immunogobulins.

IgA is to do with mucosal linings, which is why a coeliacs test will first look at the IgA level - if it's too low, then a 'negative' result is meaningless on it's own.

IgG is to do with the blood and extracellular fluid, so helps to control tissue infections.

So if you are low in both IgA and IgG then you'd possibly expect more infections in body tissues and the gut, etc.

Its ds results. He has a gastrostomy in due to gastric problems and to me it feelslike ssomething is missing. Like they've not identified everything.

Does this require any treatment?
His were less than 0.1 and 0.6

I don't know what treatment thresholds and protocols are, sorry.

Hi - have you asked for a specific referral to an Immunologist? That is the referral you need if not under, as if the levels of IgG (which has 4 parts to it and all need testing separately) then there is treatment options. Low IgA and IgG can result in more or more serious infections so a different treatment regime for illnesses can be utilised as well. There used to be a great charity called the PIA but it has closed down due to funding (PIA = primary immune association).

If the levels are below threshold the Immunologist can diagnose and give the name of the specific condition. Also they run lots of other tests linked with IgG and IgA to check how the body responds say to vaccines etc,to check antibody levels and so forth.

Not every hospital has an Immunology department, so you may have to go to one further away.

Coeliac disease cannot be tested using the normal blood tests if IgA is too low, so biopsy is usually used.
