rookie questions - CAMHS/statement

EP has recomended CAMHS for assessment of ADHD essentially.

Long list of issues - sensory seeking, demand avoidance, inattentive and impulsive, gross and fine motor skills issues , poor social skills, poor self regulation (meltdowns in school in particualr).
I asked for developmental paed, and have agreement from GP to refer (to CAMHS) based on my conserns and the EP report but need to take DS in for her to 'see' him so have to go back.

Just not sure what happens after that...is it multidisciplinary?
Are they going to ask for assessments from OT, SALT etc. do I have to ask for that separately?

The EP recomnded a statement - do we have to have all the assesments in place prior to requesting the statement, or do we just list conserns and hope they agree to assess andthen the assessments happen?

Many thanks for your help and advice

If the EP has recommended a statement, I'd go ahead with requesting statutory assessment straight away. Was this the LA's EP, not a private one? The EP is usually the main person LAs take notice of.

It may be in your area that CAMHS is the route to DX rather than straight to a developmental Paed, it does seem to be different in different areas. A DX may well help to oil the statementing wheels, but a DX could take months or years. Best to get medical and educational profs working in parallel, as it's interventions and support at school that will make a difference. A DX is all you get from the medics, nothing concrete. Ask for referrals to SALT and OT, you might not get them automatically, then ask for SALT and OT reports for the SA.

Your long list of issues look a bit like ASD to my untrained eye.

Thanks Ellen...not sure what the deal is here....I assume its CAMHS that do any dx otherwise why suggest it. It was the LA EP, so hopefully the LA will take her report and work with that.
I'll bear in mind that I may need to ask for OT and SALT...thanks.

I am sure the school will be happy to start the statementing process as they are stuggling to get the funding to help DS and they only asked for 15 hours (got 10).

I have to agree ASD does seem to be quite likely. The EP thought he may be a 'puzzle child' having small pieces of a number of conditions ranging from ASD, PDA, ADHD,SPD, dyspraxia.....but the one he meets most criteia on is ADHD.
