Hi my son is 26 months and is currently showing signs of autism we are involved with a peditrition and speech therapist. My son likes to visual stim a lot he will lie sideways on floor and will move a toy/object along floor whilst watching it closely with his eyes. I was wondering if anyone elses children do this? Xx

Mine flaps his hands when excited & has started to make accompanying throat clearing noises.

I work with autistic children as an ABA tutor and most of the kids I've worked with have had visual stims (amongst many others). It is a very common thing to observe in autistic children.

DS (3) has what I think are visual stims - he spins with eyes to the side and likes to look at things out of the corner of his eyes. He sometimes scrunches up his face and looks at lights/screens with his eyes nearly shut, he also puts his face very close to things and sort of moves his head from one side to the other, so his eyes start looking straight ahead but he's looking out of the corner of his eyes by the end. He also sometimes shakes his head while looking out of the corner of his eye, or runs with his head to one side.

We're waiting for a multi-disciplinary assessment at present.
