I know of a family living abroad, thinking of moving back to UK. Child is asd and will need one to one. Child is still young. Where, within commuting distance to London, is more or less likely to statement? I know west sussex is stingey and surrey a bit better. Also anyone know of good infant/ primary both private and state with or without units in the south east, home counties? Really want to help them with some pointers.

Be careful of 'Surrey' as some of Surrey counts as London Boroughs and they can be absolute b***ds.

With all the changes due I'm not sure if any LA's are more likely to statement than others although would be happy to be proven wrong on this. They are all more likely to try delaying tactics I would have thought.

Hi Inaflap

My DD (not ASD but LD and severe communication issues) goes to this place which is a specialist preschool for children with ASD so if the child would still be of preschool age this might be good. The lady who is Head of Nursery there used to be head of an ASD unit attached to a primary so would be a good person to discuss local provision with inc chances of statement etc.

They use a variety of approaches - most recently SCERTS (I don't really know much about it!) they also have in-house SLT and OT.

If you look at the address and add a "shire" to the town in the address, you'll see what county I'm talking about Wink

I've just secured a full-time 1:1 statement for my DD to support her in MS but as I say she doesn't have an ASD so no direct experience.

HTH

Just thought too, I have heard that Milton Keynes has some specialist ASD schools but don't know anyone with experience. MK has fast trains to London too Smile
