We had a letter through for an appointment with us and not ds. He is undergoing diagnosis for possible ASD. I did ring up to ask why ds wasn't to be there, and the secretary said she wasn't sure but probably because the paed wants to talk without the distraction of ds Confused
Anyone else had this?

Yes we had quite a few appointments without Dd3 and one where she was taken out by a nurse while we talked.

I actually preferred to talk without Dd3 present as she used to get very distressed when we spoke about her difficulties.
Dont worry it will be fineSmile

Thankyou. Having been through this once with ds1, and him being at all the appointments I was a bit confused, but it is a different paed this time with ds2.

Yes, for the first appointment at the ASD assessment clinic, the letter said to come without DD. DH & I were seen by a clinical psychologist. She asked us about DD's development and behaviours. The next appointment was with a paed and SALT, and we brought DD to that one. They sent us out of the room and brought us back in about 15 minutes later and told us the outcome.

Good luck with your appointment Rumours, and hope it goes well.

Yes, we did the same, just appointment for us the first time, then follow ups with DD present before her diagnosis was given to us.

DS had two appointments with the Paed and the DH and I went to one alone where she did the parent part of the DISCO.

We pretty much got the dx there and then. She'ddone the other assessments earlier.

I found it much easier to be frank about DS's difficulties without him there as he gets very distressed to think that he isn't perfect!
