am hoping she does a good 'show' for them.

My ds4 was seen at the cdc 2 months ago. He was seen by a speech therapist ( he was 8 months and had never uttered a sound) an eye specialist (can't spell opthalmathingy!!) who waved grey pictures in front of his face. Checked him for a squint and astigmatism. A physio and lastly by a pead who did a general health check listened to heart, chest, looked in ears throat etc. Checked out his hips and reflexes.
He was diagnosed with hypotonia ans global developmental delay.
He now sees the phys once a month and has a general review at end of May.
Don't know your history misdee - how is your dd?

rummum · 25/04/2006 09:49

Oh misdee I was exactly the same with my daughter!Especially as I had to push for her to go! I expected them to say "Rummum your daughters fine but your not.. get help"

My daughter saw the paediatrition for suspected dypraxia and coordination problems.. and daughter spent the whole time doing these perfect cartwheels that would have scored 10 at the Olympics!..
Anyway daughter has got dyspraxia and aspergers.. I was right... (the spinning cartwheel thing is a sensory thing apparently)!

Good luck... they ask a lot of questions as well, so its not all what they see on the day. IYSWIM

Yep - forgot to say they ask lots of questions about the birth, siblings, general health and development. The team here were great and lstened to all my worries.
My fear was what they were going to tell me. My ds's sn are quite obvious so I knew they would tell me something was wrong but I was unsure (and still am really) as to how serious it would be.
(Sorry ramble,ramble!!)

she has ASD traits, dysprxia has been mentioned, autism has been mentioned, aspergars. all along the spectrum really. she has low muscle tone and poor co-ordination. i know i am not a paranoid mother, but the last time she saw anyone at this clinic about her co-ordination, the paed said she perfectly fine but would refer tp physio anyway. physio picked up the low muslce tone, not the paed. she saw speech therepist recently, dd2 has some speech delay and her sounds arent right.

cant wait till its over. she is 3.5years old. can i expect to get a diagnosis at this assessment or some idea? will they let me know there and then or do i wait for the letters afterwards?

I was given a diagnosis on the day and then received a report from everyone who has seen him a few weeks later.

rummum · 25/04/2006 10:02

I forgot to add that I made a list of concerns about DD, I copied this out and sent to them before the appointment so they had a good idea of the difficulties she was having...
DD was sent from pillar to post... paediatritian, OT, CAMHS, and then SOCOM... I made sure that they all had a copy before the appointment...
also I always made a list before I went of things that I wanted to mention... HTH

rummum · 25/04/2006 10:06

Don't expect them to diagnose on the day... be prepared to be sent to different people...

Daughter is hypermobile too... she was refered to... I can't remember the name.. but she has insoles for her shoes which help.
we sent dd to gymnastics when she was about 3 to give her some grace for want off a better word.. she was very uncoordinated.. and she loved it there...

At our CDC they hold a case conference for everyone involved, including the parents. The Paed then told us their findings at the end of the meeting and gave us a draft copy ofeach person's report. The final report arrived about 10 days later.

Ask the Paed to clarify the dx. At ds2's meeting the Paed spent so long talking about how ds2 was on the autistic spectrum that everyone in the room thought the dx was now official. The written report had no dx at all, just vague notes about trait and how ds2 was developing "along the same lines as his brother".

Be prepared to answer the same questions over and over, and resist the urge to say "Why don't you just READ dd2's file FFS!" :o

Take it from me, if she's anything like ds it'll be a breeze!! Ds point blank refused to engage the dr in any activities and spent the whole 90 minutes looking out the window!!
She did ask a lot of questions about anything and everything but they will have a guess at a dx and refer you to other specialists then to a CDAC when you should get the full dx from all involved.
