Verrucas and SN son

I've just discovered DS2 has a verruca. Not the end of the world I know.

He has ASD, GDD, LDs, has had leukaemia so he's afraid of anything touching him because he thinks it's chemotherapy again Sad. I just tried to go near him with a treatment gel and he freaked. And he's a big 8 year old. I'm a lone parent so I have no-one to help hold him down.

Any tips or ideas welcome please. I don't want the school to think I can't be bothered to deal with it.

This is going to sound outrageous, but it worked for my DS after the treatment gels and plasters did not... take a small piece of duct tape about 1cm wider than the verruca (and you can buy funky colours and patterns now, which might help with his fear if he helps choose it) and stick it right on top of it. Cover it with a plaster (or don't if he will leave the duct tape alone). In 48 hours, take off the plaster and tape, scrub the verruca to get off the softened top and repeat. You will have to do it for a while (DS took about 4 or 5 weeks), but the verruca needs to be exposed to air - if it is not, it will soften and die, and the adhesive from the duct tape, as long as the verruca is totally covered, will smother it.

Also, if you want to use a chemical treatment and speed things up, there are chemical plasters available as well.

Poor little guy, we see "odd" fears here too... they have been through so much.

Thanks for the reply BeeMom. I will try that. He'll may pick it off as he's a bit of a picker/scratcher but it's worth a go. Smile

I have recently successfully treated (gel and filing) a verucca on nt ds by waiting until he is asleep. Applied gel, left foot exposed to air while it dried, emery board and gel next night...would that work?

MsNobodyAgain · 08/01/2013 18:16

notactually good idea but he barely sleeps. And he doesn't sleep deeply. We are seeing a Sleep Clinic as it's so bad.

I may however, use your idea on my nt DD who has probably infected him! And she sleeps very well so I'll get away with it. Thanks.

I had really bad verrucas my advice is leave it alone mad eh well the thing is mine didn't. hurt till I started treating it and as its a virus they won't go till your ds makes the anti bodies I've left ds and he hasn't got any more or any bigger and it neither hurts nor bothers him. Bit unorthodox I know but thats my advice FWIW.

Crawling · 08/01/2013 18:19

but if they start spreading then I would treat them.

MsNobodyAgain · 08/01/2013 18:27

Crawling Ta for answering. I left DDs and then it's spread to 4 on her foot so I'm reluctant to leave DS2s. I have read that some people leave it though and the virus goes away.

I guess I'm just a bit panicky after what he has been through and his immune system isn't back to normal yet. I think I just need to calm down about his health in general. Blush

No I can understand 100% why you would be nervous of leaving it given your ds weakened immune system.
