i am starting to worry my ds1 has OCD
ive been to the dr about it already but that was just due to the compulsive toilet trips and i was worried he was diabetic but he tested negative for that but its getting worse and worse. one time he went to pee and i told him to wash his hands and he got in to a an argument about it and so my dh shouted at him so he went back to the bathroom washed his hands
and then had to pee and then rewashed his hands
and then had to pee...i had to go in there to pull him out of his cycle
and also he practically has a panic attack if his shoes aren't tied in this particular way....can anyone help, advise, etc??

Hi clocito, I am glad you found your way over here and hope someone with knowledge of ocd comes along soon.

Did you have any thoughts about whether he struggles socially or with his communication Smile

pinkorkid · 07/01/2013 19:19

There is some interesting information here from the ocd clinic at the maudsley hospital in London: www.national.slam.nhs.uk/services/camhs/camhs-ocd/.

But as first port of call you probably want to go back to GP with examples of obsessive behaviours and how they seem to be impacting on him. Ask to be referred to CAMHS for assessment.

Ineedmorepatience

he is very social, spoke early and is funny and verbal but he did stutter when he was about 3 but grew out of that.

hi there Clocito

i don't know much about OCD in anyone really, just a few documentaries that i've seen on TV recently, but DD is DXd ASD and has very high anxiety.

she is being referred for anxiety therapy by CAMHS, and they always ask if her rituals have escalated at all, and lots about her flexibility of mind.

she has major problems with surprises and change in routine

eg during periods of high sensory input (starting school, illness, end of term, holidays etc) her anxiety levels gradually build up to a point where she stops eating/drinking/sleeping and when it's been at her most extreme she then loses urinary continence.

OCD has been mentioned a few times by the Drs at CAMHS

pinkorkid, do you know a lot about OCD? can i ask you some (probably really stupid) questions, please?
