Just wondered if anyone else,s LO with cp has a slow weight gain.

I am really worrying about my Lo as his weight gain is slow and also his head growth has slowed down he is off the centile on both these. He is 51/2 months now and has only gained 5lbs since birth, everyone's telling me not to worry about his head as he is quite small built but Im worring my self sick.

My dd had very slow weight gain from birth, she has a genetic condition that causes it, have you been given the ok by a doctor etc for teh slow gain?
If your baby is alert, feeding ok, sleeping ok and generally happy, you have little to worry about... But do make sure that a gp or someone allays your worries first :)

dd doesn't have sn but also had really slow weight gain, veering off the charts, and even at 4 1/2 looks about a year younger. Is your ds in proportion , feeding and sleeping ok and otherwise well ? If so perhaps he is just destined to be petite or were you and his father smallish as babies. Do you have a paediatrician who could reassure and advise you ?

Does he eat well??
My dd is 11 now but over the years the nurse's at her school have mentioned her weight. She eats REALLY well so I have told them to back off.
A lot of the children at her school(nearly all have cp) are very small.
Has anyone.. pead/nurse voiced concern.
Funny I went to a freids today her son had a brain injury and his disability is very similar to cp. He doesn't eat very well so has had an gasrto(can't spell it) so that he can have back up feeds.

What was his birth weight?

Lismar36 · 18/04/2006 18:51

ds feeds very well, he was tube fed for the 1st 8 weeks and vomited most feeds he was also on high energy milk, and drugs for reflux. He is now on aptimil and I have stopped all drugs and he is a lot happier, he is a very active baby and spends lots of time kicking and batting his toys on his gym. HV is going to contact his peadatrican to see what he thinks.

I don,t know what his birth rate was as he was to poorly to be weighed, he was first weighed at 7 days od and he was 7.7, they said he was probably well over 8lb at birth.
