ADHD and Statement

Hi I'm a parent of 2 children both with ADHD but unfortunately not dx until they were 15 and 17 Fortunately Camhs have improved their assessment proceedure and more parents are having their children's disability recognised. Because of my children's difficulties I have been very committed to running a support group for parents of children with Adhd and am helping a parent through the statementing process which began on the 15th Feb and is still not resolved.

We received a draft statement on the 26th July and wrote to the LA asking for a meeting on the 7th August. Eventually we met with the named officer in September and the Ed Psych who agreed to amend some of their report. We finally rec'd an amended statement on the 21st Dec which has included 3 minor ammendments. It seems the LA can take as long as it likes to respond to our letters but we are given a timescale of 15 days. We did send a very detailed letter outlining what we wanted changed in the statement on the 12th Dec. However the LA has come back saying they wont be able to give us a response until they speak to the other professionals and the school and this will be sometime in Jan.

Can we ask the LA to finalise the statement as I understand we can't ask the tribunal to get involved until this happens. As usual the LA are dragging it out!!

Just tell the LA to finalise the statement as your solicior has advised a Judicial review in regard to their delays and you will be forced to complain to the Local Government Ombudsman. You will have no choice to take this action if you don't have a copy of the final statement in & days from the date on this letter ect.
