Hi
Hope someone can help, I have an 8yr old son who I really think needs assessment for ADHD but I cannot face dragging him through the CAMHS system; Ideally I'd like a Dr in the North West of England but will travel to London if required as its only 2hrs on the train.

We had a horrendous experience with CAMHS for one of my older children who eventually was diagnosed with Aspergers once they agreed to fund assessment.

School agree there are issues but as his disruption to class is low level they aren't really bothered & just make him sit on his own all the time. It isn't low level to him though & I can't sit back & watch things get worse.

Any help appreciated!

Once DS1 had a diagnosis, I found sibling concerns were listened to. I have no doubt we would have been fobbed off otherwise.

What do you want from diagnosis? For us the benefits were

  1. Recognition and knowledge,
  2. A parenting course specifically for ADHD/ASD, which was good
  3. Medication

We are using the LANCS www.lanc.uk.com/.

It might be too far for you and we haven't been yet so can't tell you what it is like. But, just thought you might be interested.

Richard Soppit at the Priory in Cantebury specialises in ADHD. Bit far for you perhaps but I met a couple of families in the waiting area on the day we went who'd stayed overnight in a Travelodge
