Dd3's visual shower timetable, will it work?? Watch this space :-)

Ok, I made the visual timetable for getting Dd3 in the shower. I gave it her 5 mins ago with some blutak on the back and said you can stick it on the wall in the bathroom and tick each step off as you have done it.

So far she hasnt moved off our bed and is watching videos on Dp's phone.

Bloody hell, she has gone in the bathroom and stuck it on the wall, now she is looking for clothes!!!

This is brilliant, why didnt I do this 6 months ago when all this started kicking off??

Dd3 is in the shower, it worked. She didnt moan, cry or roll on the floor.

She just took the timetable and went. I am gobsmacked.

Ok so it was the fastest shower ever but hey at least it was stress free

Also like gymballs for days when the tramp is too wet.

Wow I made visuals for the bath (a rough copy) and DS went in and even put shampoo on his hair.
That's the first time in 2 years he's bathed without tears :)
I'm going to get the laminator out after the festive season and do lots of visuals :)

Hi all, just wanted to let you know, it is still working.

Dd3 showered, washed her hair, dried and dressed herself and hung up her towels afterwards!!!

All without any moaning, yay

Gave her loads of praise which was grerted by a "Dont be stupid mother" face.

I'm gonna give this a try with dd13.

We're reluctant with timetables as it can make things worse due to her demand avoidance but sometimes they work. She won't have a shower/bath at all so it can't get any worse tbh!

I need to go buy me a laminator.

It was you lot who inspired me porridge.

I had spent months in a ridiculous stand off with her which I obviously needed to take control of.

Bearing in mind she is actually able to shower herself on her terms ie, when we are away camping.

I am just glad I asked the question because the visual timetable was obviously just what we needed.

I have given my self a little pat on the back though

Inspired by you, I am looking at this one.
Is that too cheap and cheerful? I don't mind spending a bit more if it's something that will be used often (need to do lots of new schedules for 2013!)

I have an ancient laminator which only takes A4 sheets. I use Lidl pouches they seem fine.

I am sure that one will be ok, we have an Asda one at work which doesnt like heating up. We use tesco value pouches at work which are abit flimsy but do the job.

Thanks for replying. Got an Amazon voucher for Christmas so thought this would be perfect (it's that or pillows).

So I dont need an A3 version then; is that overdoing it? I suspect it's the type of thing that I will fall in love with for 3 months, then neglect it badly thereafter .

I dont think you need an A3 one and the pouches are more expensive and may not be quite as readily available.

Why not go A4 and have a little treat to go with it

I did each small step so :

Go in bathroom,
Get towels ready,
Take off clothes,
Turn on shower [I preset the temp for her]
Get in shower and wash hair and body.
Get out and get and get dry.
Get dressed,
Hang up towels.
Well done you are finished

It did seem slightly patronising but she was sitting with me when I typed it out and she was happy with it.
She seems to like it broken down into tiny steps because she struggles to remember too many instructions at once.
