DS has slashed our living room futon this afternoon so a replacement is now needed. (It's dawned on him he won't see his waste of space Dad this Xmas season). I replaced the mattress last year but the frame is well over 20 years old, so it's ages since I went shopping for similar.

It's gonna have to be 2nd hand so please don't tell me about wonderful offers in DFS etc. We have a cat with "ishoos" too. I'm hoping the red cross shops will get some nice items in during Jan as people get rid of their Xmas upgrades iykwim.

Does anyone know what sort of fabric is hardest wearing? Should I look out for cordory or leather or what? I want summat that can cope with little boys sticky fingers & cats claws and know that you'll be bound to have some ideas to set me on the right track in my quest.

As porter says, sew up the slashes - or duct tape and recover. Maybe you could fit it into a duvet cover?

Oh no Boch. Last thing needed before Christmas. Is your ds okay?

Freecycle often have sofas going but you have to collect usually so it'll cost you the van hire unless you know someone!?

Sorry to hear that boc.
Are you on free cycle?
I would suggest leather tbh but it is obv more pricey.
If tut has to be fabric, then I would try and get one with removable covers, ESP with the cat issue...

auntevil · 23/12/2012 19:56

I would repair the original and either get a throw or a sofa cover for 'best'.
When I was looking for covers for a sofa that is in the conservatory and at risk of fading, I found some on the internet for about £19.

bochead · 23/12/2012 21:02

You guys are brilliant!

Found I can buy replacement covers at under £30. (Will probably invest in a spare at some point just so I always have a nice fresh one for home visits from profs lol!).

Crisis over. I was SO pee'd off earlier. One of those one thing after another sort of days iykwim.

I can understand that boc.
Hope your ds is not too distressed x

Mumma's revenge is a dish best served by a visit to the barbers Wink.

There is nothing DS hates more than a hair cut so it makes the perfect punishment now that traditional Victorian methods of chastisement are banned. He won't commit a similar offence for a LOOOOONG time now - hee hee.
