DLA Christmas miracle!

I am so shocked, I need to share with people who will get this!

We applied for DLA for DS for the first time, he has ASD.

We got our reply today 9 days after they received the form and he was awarded higher rate care and lower mobility, which is the maximum I thought he'd be entitled to, although I thought they may not go as far as higher rate for care.

It is to be reviewed in 2017!

I used the Cerebra guide to filling the form in, which I heartily recommend to anyone who's child has a neurological condition. I sent additional information for every relevant question - typed on a separate sheet, using the prompts on the cerebra guide.

It's back paid to the beginning of November when I telephoned for the form - which I also recommend over the online version, as it gives you a deadline to fill the damn thing in (procrastinator here) and then you get back paid to when you asked for the form.

DH has been made redundant this year, which was the prompt for me finally applying. The money has made our Christmas Xmas Smile

Brilliant news!

Do you get child tax credits? If so, call them - you will get a higher rate for DS, and should be backdated as well.

Also you or your DH could apply for Carer's Allowance if you're eligible (not working or working and earning less than £100pw).

You might also qualify for a Family Fund grant, though that's more discretionary and depends on household income.

Great news, now you can concentrate on having a very merry Christmas x

Not sure about tax credits, were have not been entitled this year since they lowered the earning threshold, but the calculations are based on dh earnings last year and without DS's DLA. I'll certainly be phoning them to check, thanks.
First on my list is hiring a cleaner Grin Grin
Carer's allowance was next on my list, for DH, as I earn >£100 pw.

Some information about passported benefits.
You could go to cab or do a benefits check on Turn2Us.
