Is a private Ed psyc worth it?

We only got a very brief report from LA ed psyc and I think we need more information to help us work out how to help my ds who has ASD dx last year and we are just applying for a statement he is in ms secondary school.
Is it worth trying a private Ed psyc consultant?
Any ideas on costs too please?

£750 for first assessment but very thorough

ive just had one done - cost me £800 - i am off to tribunal - have to say it was worth every single penny as the difference is increible

example - LA EP said his spelling was 'average' so no area of concern. the private report looked at his IQ etc and said for his ability he should be at a certain level but he was actually in the average range which meant that he was not forfilling his true potential so yes he was average but that was not the whole story at all. my report was so detailed and she spent so much time with him at home and at school. i was very impressed and would pay it again in a heartbeat.

Thanks to both of you I was hoping to get that response because the other tests did not seem very thorough to me but I wasn't sure if I was expecting too much.
His dyslexia test was quite inconclusive by stating that low scores were likely to do with autism difficulties in understanding rather than dyslexia.

Thanks that's good we have already had private SALT report but that was really for ados autism scores. We really need to know which areas are worse for him. He is only attending school part time at the moment so he is falling further behind.
