We have been chasing the secondary school to get the LA Ed Psyc in to see us regarding our Ds age 12 ASD Dx. We have asked school to reduce curriculum as he is v anxious not coping with full school day they have declined.
What does LA Ed Psyc do and how can they help please?

Also do you think it might be quicker to get letter from Psychiatrist to back up our request?

Ours doesn't seem to do a lot but it seems that they, and the autism outreach team (or specialst autism teacher), hold a lot of weight when it comes to county decisions.

Does he have a statement? Can you get backing from paed, S&L, anyone else who helps him?

What reasons have they given for declining? How is his progress? Is he still maintaining the same level?

Thanks glitch
Applying for statement but it could take long time and took years to get Dx. Looking for something to help ASAP because he suffering with bad anxiety. He struggles to get in every day and sometimes has to come home in afternoon because its too much for him. He has been like this since starting secondary school. He is in yr 8 now. Ed Psyc has been informed but I have now idea how long it will take for her to see him?
The subjects we asked to be dropped are ones he is bottom of class in and they are not core subjects. I didn't think there would be a problem because they are allowed to drop them in Sept 13 anyway so there is only 2 terms left. More than very disappointed with meeting outcome when they said no! I am shocked really. I thought a letter for governors from the Psychiatrist who specialises in ASD he sees for anxiety might help.

I don't think the EP does help. Certainly none of the 4 LEA reports done on my kids helped at all.

But the EP might tell school to reduce her curriculum, and they might listen to the EP and not you.....

....don't hold your breath for an EP - in our experience they have just stalled for time and then sat on the fence - but maybe it's just the ones here that are spine- less and not worth the effort!
