ADHD support groups in surrey?

Hi,
I have a 6 yr old dd who has recently been diagnosed with ADHd and was wondering if there were any support groups I could go to, does anyone know of any or where I can look for them?

I don't know, but as I could have written your post word for word I'll be watching with interest for replies!

It is great coming on here for advice and I have had some amazing advice but feel like in the real life I am left on my own and would be great to have people to talk to face to face.

hi foxy800 I also have a 6 year old with adhd who was diagnosed 18 months ago but things have become increasingly worse recently and we have begun to consider medication. am not in surrey but there are sites you can try that have local support groups, cannot remember off top of my head but addiss, may not be correct name and another one, hope someone comes along to tell you because can't remember the name of it!

Thank you MrsHarper, we too are starting medication on Tuesday, have very mixed feelings about it but nothing else is working.

Surrey NAS organises various things for families affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorders. So that may be a starting point, a local coffee group perhaps to meet other parents in a similar situation. There is a specific group for parents of girls, if you are Woking/Guildford area. Surrey NAS runs family activities from time to time, such as Ice Skating, Cimema (group has exclusive use of one screen).

Surrey Autism Resource Centre, Godalming

If you are on Surrey/Hants border, then NAS Hart Rushmoor is based in Farnborough. Nikki who runs the branch is very friendly so probably won't mind you calling for a chat even if you are more in Surrey rather than Hart District, she may well know of other local support groups/services.

One of the adhd support groups is called adders - link here: www.adders.org/forum.htm - that sounds like it might be the one mrsHarper was trying to think of. i agree with the other posters to contact the nas who are very strong in surrey. Also quite a lot of children with ASD have co-morbid diagnosis with ADHD as well.

Thanks Pinkorkid yes that was one, the other one i was thinking of is ADDISS. I agree there is a huge degree of overlap between adhd and asd, I suspect that if meds calm down my ds symptoms for adhd his asd traits will become even more obvious.

Get in touch with Unique adult ADHD support group - [email protected] They can help and answer all your questions about diagnosis, help, support etc. They are based in Surrey but are able to help nationally. www.adhdsurrey.org.uk Really lovely and friendly girls who run it and really helpful! good luck x (aimed at 16yrs plus but that means parents are included in who they will help in terms of advice etc etc!!)
