Statement/Independent SS

Has anyone moved their statemented child to an independent special school funding themselves, and then subsequently managed to get the LA to name it on a statement and fund from there? Is this ever going to be an option for us or do we have to stick it out in mainstream until we get more evidence of failing to appeal the placement? (DD is statemented in mainstream at the moment)

I am not sure but i think the only way which you could do this would be to formally remove your child from state education. the statement would end if you did so you would have to go through that process again. independemt specialist schools are not cheap depending on the level of support they would need ie 1:1 etc. you are talking around thousands of pounds, possibly in the region of 45k

Thanks Headless - I have a feeling it is not the sensible route to take. Tribunal coming up, will talk with legal advocate about changing appeal to include placement too I think.

I appealed parts 2 and 3 of a statement and in the middle of the process moved Ds to an independent SS and then included part 4 in the appeal.

We settled before tribunal.
