Well we received dd's final statement today, we have been refused our school choice and they have not taken into account anything I put in proposed statement as changes etc. It looks to me like they have just rewritten the proposed statement, and completely ignored what I have said!!!!

Sorry vent over!!!!

yes. that's what they do these days.

what are you going to do?

Not sure what I can do so any advice would be great.

I have spoken to her teaching assistant at school as teacher not in and they said leave it and they will review it regularly but dont know if I am happy about that.

Have you spoken to IPSEA or SOSSEN or any of the others?

IPSEA have letters and signposting to how you can appeal if you want to.

However, although you can appeal yourself without representation, you will probably need to fund at least an independent Educational Psychologist.

Why has your school choice not been put on the statement?

they say they feel her needs can be fulfilled in mainstream, eg, where she is now but they also class her needs as severe and complex. The school I recommended has small classes, cares for children with her needs and most importantly she has been diagnosed with ADHD and the other school has a lot of experience with this.

There is a specialist centre at her school but it is only for moderate needs.

The school agree she needs more hours but they are refusing us them too. i just feel that I might as well have not taken the time to reply to proposed statement as they have just ignored everything!!!

Sadly all too common an experience that they ignore parental input - at least until you appeal when they may pay more attention. Your time in revising the proposed statement has not been wasted because it can form the basis for your appeal to the sen tribunal.

Thank you for your replies. It is just so fristrating we all want the best for our children and it is just so hard when it is to do special needs to achieve this!!!!

On top of all this she has been diagnosed formal today with ADHD and is starting a trial of meds from Monday. Just find it all overwhelming I guess!!!
