Oh Dear!!

The little girl I invited to DDs first ever sleep over bailed at bed time!!

She was the only one of 7 children invited to DDs birthday party who bothered to come and she sent her a letter earlier in the week saying that they are BFFs. The letter also included plans and one of them was getting up and midnight and
watching TV (nothing new for DD with her sleep patterns).

Nothing happened to upset her, I have spoken to mum to confirm, she just missed her mum!

My DD is devastated, as is her friend!!

I have told them both that maybe they are too little to be away from mummy for the night and we will do lots of daytime stuff.

The other girl enjoyed watching me make Thomas the Tank engine and percy out of icing for a cake I have to have ready for tomorrow. Also Buzz lightyear and Woody, so I have told her to ask her mum to look out for them on FB as she will miss then being complete cakes!!

DD sobbed her heart out as her friend left (my DP dropped her home) but has settled now!! She was just so looking forward to her sleepover!

Aww shame. Hopefully another time for them both.

That's a shame, but maintaining and supporting a friendship is much more important than one sleepover, of course, so I hope your DD will be able to understand that her friend is still her friend.

The day, or rather night will come, give it time

I think you are right AuntEvil (not a name that suits you btw) and that they are just too little for the seperation!!

Won't try a sleep over too soon again though!! Will plan a cake decortaing session as that seems to interest her friend a lot. We could so a cupcake for every member of the family.

We will stick to day time from now on.

DD has calmed down after a cuddle and explanation, so all is good!

It is amazing though, how a year or so can make DCs mature. Lots of good times together will mean that when the time is right to try again it will be a perfect sleepover.

mamma I have been in the very same situation, but from the other side - my dd was the one who bailed leaving her absolutely-we-will-never-be-separated (asd) best friend devastated.

Now, we do slumber parties instead - she goes to her friend's, they get into pjs, do bedtime things, have a late night, then at 9.30-10pm I pick her up, or vice versa. It does mean a late night (but they were going to get that anyway), but we kind of think it's a step in between a play and a sleep over.

Hopefully in a year or two, when their ready for full-on sleepovers, they will be so used to the lead-up to going to bed, they will be fine.

Oh that's really choked me up. Poor wee things, all excited and then all upset. But on the bright side, she sounds like a lovely friend for your dd and Im sure the sleepover will happen when she's ready for it. Wee scones...
