DD (6) been diagnosed with unilateral deafness - anyone else?

DD recently been diagnosed with mild to severe sloping deafness in her left ear - she is being fitted for a hearing aid in next couple of months (which she is really excited about and thinks will be really cool, thank goodness!) and we still have a raft of tests ahead of us to try and find out why and what is happening (it appears to have got slightly worse in last 3 months). She has no other developmental issues and so far has been doing well in school - she is in y2. I am now going into tiger mode to make sure that carries on - any advice about getting support, making sure the school is doing their bit etc?

You need to contact SENDIS via your LA and speak to the advisory teacher for the deaf. She will come out and assess your school to see what changes need to be made to make it deaf friendly. Acoustic curtains, carpets, acoustic mats etc. There may also be an assessment for a radio aid to help her in class, or the school may well already have a soundfield system installed to help boost her hearing.

Thanks Sallybear. Could you clarify what SENDIS is? I'm right at the start of all this so still learning all the jargon!
