AIBU to give up mumsnet because of all the ignorant comments?

It seems like every week I come on mn now there's a thread full of ignorant comments about SN. The new one tonight a thread where a poster is complaining about seeing a young boy out for dinner with their family with headphones on.

A few posters came on and raised the point that there could be SN and that's why the boy was wearing headphones, which was greeted by posters actually posting 'sigh, another SN debate'

Am I just being super sensitive or is it completely unreasonable to not even entertain the opinion of posters raising the issue of SN?

I'm at the point now where I'm thinking of leaving mn for good.

Just stay here . I barely venture onto the main boards.

They are all a bit weird on AIBU, don't worry about it, they have nothing else to do with their lives.

yeah, on a friday night, you could have interrupted a really fascinating aibu -bosom hoik debate about the yoof of today wearing headphones at a restaurant and how that means society is going to hell in a handcart

Mostly i can just flick off if it is one of 'those' threads.
Makes me sad though.

But without mn generally i think i'd go bats.

Maybe I should just hide AIBU, but then you still get the odd thread in chat too now and then.

Just turn a blind eye or chip in if you feel up to it but don't take the crap that some harp to heart.

It's not even the complaints or comments about seeing someone with headphones on, seeing someone sitting in a trolley etc, that are really getting to me, its the comments from people who are offended or annoyed that SN was mentioned.

There are a few posters on my spreadsheet who shout 'professionally offended' at the slightest hint of a mention of SN. One day I will hunt them all down...

Seriously, why does anyone bother going elsewhere? I genuinely prefer the SN board as there are like minded folk here. The AIBU should be renamed as Aggressive & Ignorant Bitches United IMHO.....

I avoid it and I avoid chat. Infact there is very little I do go on apart from here lol

If someone mentions a thread there and needs back up I will add myself to the army so to speak but other than that I just cant be bothered.

Its like flogging a dead horse out there on some of those threads.

Been on MN just over a year and have never ventured off the SN board - in fact when anyone ever mentioned AIBU I didn't even know what it was (I still struggle with all the abbreviations).
Anyhow saw this thread and thought I'll google this - so it means "am I bring unreasonable"!!
Look through the thread Panda - the overall impression I got was that the OP was a judgemental arse - if she was having special family time in the restaurant, with fascinating family conversation then surely they wouldn't have had time to be nosing around at other families - let her cosy up with a daily mail and hopefully shell choke on her ovaltine, along with her sighing mate - "aaahhh another SN debate"
I found that whole board pointless .....won't be going back!

PP - don't go. There are plenty of us who don't feel like those vocal few on that thread and are happy to tell them to pull their heads in I'd like to have slapped a few of them. Don't lose what is good about MN because of a few stupid people.

Aw you have all been so sweet. You're right though I shouldn't let people with ignorant views drive me away from what has been a great source of support. I'm just going to hide AIBU and chat for a while maybe for good and put it all to the back of my mind.

I've noticed this too. Seems like people just hate it when they're confronted with the "SN brigade" (I've seen that phrase many times recently too).

Could read it as a positive thing, like at least they're fucking noticing at last. Sometimes in-yer-face tactics can get a result.

Whatever you do, don't leave if this board gives you something positive.

Nope, I'm going to take up lurking in SN, allergies, and Pre school, Primary and Secondary Education if I feel brave.

Am fragile right now tbh, and there's too many disablist wankbadgers out to play on the busy boards right now.

Too much to process without getting drawn in to the wrong threads.

And I'm a long time MN'er. It goes in cycles like this. I end up hiding in here for a few months before I feel brave enough to venture back out onto controversial threads again!

I found this board by accident (while Bee was in hosp) and joined at a fragile time in my life. You all welcomed me and made me feel like I belonged even if I am from one of the "colonies" across the big pond. I have never even looked anywhere but the SN board, and I like it this way.

They post their threads there because they are scared to come here... and with regard to the headphone thread, YES, totally unreasonable. Unless it is your child at your table, it is none of your bloody business!

If there was a board for people with a stationary fetish, I might dally ... But very little on mn tempts me tbh

I dont want to lose my MN now Ive discovered it! Love the chit chats, but yes, Ive all but left the AIBU forum, its scary!!!! Ive chattered a couple of times and got blasted!!!

If we're asked for our opinion it should be respected yes? even if its not agreed with it should be 'discussed' in a reasonable manner.

I stay on SN and CHAT mainly.
