Dd has seen SALT loads and her appointment with the pediatrician is in two weeks as is her appointment with the ed pysch (She also sees portage). Now I have been told that if the peadiatrician thinks she has autism then he referrs to CAHMS and the 4 i have mentioned then have a board and decide if Dd has a ASD. My question is how long did a diagnosis take you from the point I am at? Tia for any replies.

I first went to GP about DS2 (Aspergers) when he was about 4 1/2. He was referred to CAMHS and finally did ADOS (?) at just over 5. At that time they said they couldn't give a definite diagnosis, so he was reassessed at 7 and got his diagnosis. We were pretty sure all along so basically worked on the assumption that he had Aspergers from 5ish. Having lurked on these boards for a long time, I've seen that it can vary enormously.

Ds1 was about a year from GP to paed to specialist assessment centre with multidisciplinary team. Unusually he was DX'd with Aspergers at only 3.5yrs.

Ds2 was seeing the paed for about a year before she mentioned PDA and we realised this is what he has. From then, after a rejection from local autism panel who just looked at his notes and me writing to push, plus an unusual pre-assessment meeting, it will have been 7m til his ASD assessment day in a few weeks.

Took us 18 months to get dx with ds, we were given a working diagnosis in under a year but had a long wait for it to be confirmed by ADOS (nine months). We actually had a statement sorted before the diagnosis was confirmed but it was obvious to everyone that ds would need to go to a special school.
