So, Beatrice is now 13 months old and developing slowly but surely. She brings joy to everyone she meets and makes my heart swell with pride.

At the moment, she is very poorly in hospital. She appears to have overcome pneumonia, but the remaining secretions are causing her huge problems. Her airway blocks at random with a mucous plug and she has had to be revived with a bag and mask 3 times in the past 24 hours. Naturally, I am in a permanent state of anxiety at the moment. I just want Beatrice home again. We have so many more memories to make.

Please spare a thought for Beatrice's sisters if you can- they too are poorly with a sickness bug and all they really want right now is cuddles with Mummy.

Life is tough right now, but nobody said it would be easy...

Checking in. Sorry to hear Beatrice has struggled but continuing to pray for you all.

Sorry but I did laugh at Beatrice waking up when you decided to sleep - pesky little buggers babies aren't they?! Grin

Donation coming your way on payday next week (whoop!). I know its after you move but I hope it still helps in some way - even if you just buy a take out because your saucepans are still packed!

pixiestix · 23/10/2012 19:13

As always, sending love and light to the whole teaset xxx

pearlgirl · 23/10/2012 19:27

Right, not much has changed. She's had a comfortable afternoon. She's in 5 litres o2 via a nebulizer mask, without the actual saline going through. It's the only way we've managed to keep her sats up. She's pooling her secretions at the back of her throat which means she just can't catch a breath sometimes.

Thank you so much for the donations that have come through to my PayPal. Dh is waiting for a phone call from a local company to discuss if they can help at a reasonable price. We really appreciate it x

Least we can do. There's a gaggle of mnetters metaphorically packing for you right now.

annalovesmrbates · 23/10/2012 20:56

Thank you for updating and so happy to hear that she is comfortable. More love and prayers. X

JustFabulous · 23/10/2012 21:00

I love packing. I wish I was near enough to help (also rubbish at geography. You could be next door for all I know.)

CaroleService · 23/10/2012 21:02

Would it help to put her on a slant?

(Hark at me. What do I know?)

I hope she turns a big corner tonight, Cup.

cupofteaplease · 23/10/2012 21:09

Yes a slant helps! She's almost sleeping upright at the moment.

Gaggle of MNters is right. Keeping up the prayer support. Last thing at night, first thing in the morning. Hope you both get some sleep.

PacificDogwood · 23/10/2012 21:29

Glad to hear she had a settled afternoon.

Just a thought (and yes, hark at me too {genius expression btw}, what do I know??): is a cough assist device a possibility for Bea?? It may be that she is too young (it needs the user to cooperate and to be able to coordinate their breathing), but there may be something similar for littlies?
The person I know using one is a young adult with muscular dystrophy, so quite a different problem, but the way you described her secretions pooling in the back of her throat and obstructing her airway reminded me of his problems.

Hereby ends the overstepping-my-professional-bounds-pie-in-the-sky-suggestions and the simple sending-of-positive-thoughts-and-vibes restarts.
A restful night to you all xx.

Cup, does Bea sleep on some sort of wedge? I only ask because a very lovely mumsnetter sent me a fantastic reflux wedge like this when ds was tiny, we used it for a long time, but he has outgrown it now, and if you wanted it I would happily pass it on.
It has a harness on it which velcro's between the legs so the child doesn't slip down, and has a head hugger which velcros on. It is in really good condition, just pm me your address if you would like it. I also used it as a good place to put ds to play when he couldn't sit and when he was tired and floppy, so even if you would like it as a spare comfy place for Bea to sit with her sisters, then let me know. x

BehindLockNumberNine · 23/10/2012 21:54

Still following your story and rooting for beautiful little Bea. Have not posted much as no constructive advice, but you are all often in my thought xx

chunkymum · 23/10/2012 22:31

Still thinking of you all. Hope Bea has a comfortable night xxx
