DLA award

I have tried to find out the answer to my question but have drawn a blank.

My DS1 has been awarded DLA from 20/9/12 to 15/3/20

What does this actually mean? Will I not need to renew it till then? How did they decide on the 2020 year?

how old will he be in 2020?

SallyBear · 20/10/2012 10:09

That was my understanding! We have ours until 2015 when they write to us about renewing it.

myBOYSareBONKERS · 20/10/2012 13:03

He will be 16 when the award finishes. Turns 17 in the August

They will review everything again in 2020 by writing to you (on his behalf) or unless you advise them of any changes in his circumstances sooner x

DameMargotFountain · 20/10/2012 13:16

i think they base the length of award on the age of the child

most seem to be reviewed at a significant NT development milestone

DD will be 10 at hers, OP, yours is 16...how old will yours be Sally when the review is due?

cornykrueger · 20/10/2012 13:17

perhaps 16 is a cut off age?
we have just have ours renewed but I can't see anywhere that tells me how long the award is for Confused

PersonalClown · 20/10/2012 13:20

Isn't 16 the age when they transfer to adult?? What is now PIP?
I've just checked. I was right.

That will be the most logical reason why your renewal is when he is 16.
Ds is 10 and has his renewal due in March. I'm hoping we will get it again.

SallyBear · 20/10/2012 13:30

My mistake. It is 2016. He will be 9. I think that they think that we won't need HR anything by then. I don't know. I'd miss the blue badge though Sad
A friend's DS DLA doesn't have an end date on his. His ASD is very severe and makes him violent. He is just 5. Sad

DameMargotFountain · 20/10/2012 13:34

well, that pours pish all over my theory then Confused

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 20/10/2012 13:41

DS runs out when he's 13 which I thought was quite a strange time, but a lot could change by then as he's only 8 now

myBOYSareBONKERS · 20/10/2012 14:22

I just assumed I had to renew it every 3 years. Is this not the case with children?

We was awarded last week from July 2012 and it needs to be renewed the day before his 11th birthday. 6th July 2017.
