melatonin

my son has melatonin via CAMHS but someone is telling me I should be able now on melatonin to get repeat px via GP but my GP refuses she says we dont at this surgery ( perhaps cos of budget) is this correct , as i read they can refuse as the onus would also be on the GP then to be sure of safety ectand they dont perhaps want the responsibility, It can be awkward if your running out the GP tells me to use Piriton in between and that works ok ish , so whats the truth can they be made by CAMHS to do repeats?

i had same problem with dd, gp wasn't allowed to do prescription for kidnaps melatonin.camhs had to do repeats, we just had to phone camhs to get a repeat, they then had to send prescription to nearest hospital to be signed, they would send prescription to pharmacy and courier meds to camhs for me to pick up, was a nighmare as it would take weeks.( not saying yours will take that long)

according to the mum she says they can send letter to gp and then they will do repeats but thats not been my experience so far

gp can do prescription for melatonin tablets, but can't prescribe kidnaps melatonin, thats probably why other mum can get melatonin from gp

I have been having kidnaps for some time from GP. They did try to withdraw it about a year ago following guidance from pct as it is expensive and they wanted to get everyone onto the circadin tablets instead. I moaned and complained and they relented. ds very resistant to taking meds and really wouldn't have taken the circadin. I think it is very dependent on your GP and how independent minded they are. Mine is quite independent minded and also compassionate so could see we needed it.
