How do I manage aggression and hitting?

We have had a week from hell. DS (6 with HF ASD) has done no work at school but basically spent the week hitting his LSA, shouting and just refusing to do anything. He spent the afternoon at home with me today after school asked me to have him rather than him go on a trip. He started hitting me and I am so ashamed to say I smacked him back. (Please dont judge me harshly, I know it was wrong, and have sobbed enough today)

I'm just at the end of my tether, I don't know what to do and I wondered if something like ABA could help, will any of the specialists refer him for it or is it like the holy grail of support for ASD.

Please help me, thanks.

Thankyou.
I apologised and we promised not to hit each other again (obviously I'm not really expecting this miracle from DS!!! :-) )

School are having a total change in what he will be doing in the next couple of weeks and doing loads to support him based on what S&L and his specialist teacher have said. I've left a message for the ed psyc as well.

Are there any good books on basic ABA techniques or any good web sites that explain how you can use it?

It is hard to get DS to say anything about what is causing the issues, I'm not even sure he knows at the moment!

It is reassuring to know I'm not alone in this and that there is some hope.
