NEW Tinsley house support thread -part 2!!

Badvoc · 21/09/2012 20:05

Hello everyone!
Thought I should start a new thread as we were nearing 1000 posts! :)
Indigo is no longer posting as you all know, but I think it would be such a shame for the support thread to go too.
I know I find reading about all the ups and downs we all experience very helpful and it's so great to hear all the progress :)
So.
We go back to TH next month and can't wait. So interested to see of the tracking programme has worked. I think ds1s reading speed has improved and he is now reading proper chapter books!
He continues to show less anxiety, OCD behaviour and stress.
He is eating better and is generally a much happier chap.
Looking forward to hearing from you all over the next few weeks/months...X

Tues 9th good for us

Lookslikerain · 15/03/2013 21:45

I would love to join your meet-up, but I'm in Scotland so it's not too easy for me to get down, but I do hope you all enjoy.

I've just spent a evening doing an online shop, watching and donating to comic relief, and enjoying an alcoholic ginger beer. The fun never stops!

Badvoc hope you're feeling better. We were all ill 2 weeks ago and it was properly miserable so you fully have my sympathy. I would do more of a hello to everyone else, but this thread seems to move on so much each time I get back online and I can't keep up! But I do love reading all your positive updates. It helps keep me going.

My DS seems to be doing well. Diet going really well, slowly trying new things. Doing exercises without too much trouble. He's started doing a few new things recently, but the cynic in me doesn't want to put it down to TH in case it isn't and I'm getting my hopes up. But... He has started more imaginative play. Not in a "pretending that his dinosaurs are having a tea party" kind of way, but he'll watch Peppa then start jumping around telling me he's jumping in muddy puddles, and get me to join in. He pretends to be a dinosaur or frog or train. That kind of thing. Usually he asks me to join in when we're in the kitchen, which is visible from the road, so I look like a right loon, jumping around the place like a frog! He's also started to tell me when he's done a poo (sorry if tmi). This is a real step forward as we've tried potty training a few times but no success. Now suddenly he's asking for his nappy to he changed! Is it TH that's made the difference? I don't know but it's great anyway! Grin

We get the feedback on his autism assessment next week. They haven't given much away on what they're thinking, but I think they'll say he's on the spectrum somewhere. Watch this space...

Lookslikerain · 15/03/2013 21:47

Oh, I forgot to tell you about the very cute thing he did yesterday. He was playing with a soft toy, took it over to his spinning chair and said "now you do spinning chair for Robin", popped it on the chair and started to spin it! The poor toy only lasted one turn before falling off but it was very sweet. Grin

Badvoc · 15/03/2013 21:53

Oh, how lovely! :)
He sounds so cute!
I don't know if its TH that's making the difference, but then again, if TH is the only change you have made.......:)
I am feeling a bit better, thank you, but poor Tom is still coughing and now ds2 is too! Sigh.

OP posts:
Lookslikerain · 15/03/2013 22:01

Sounds a lot like us and what we had. Coughs, snot, temperatures, grumpiness, not much eating and too much television! And my lovely children managed to stagger their illness so that just as the first started to get a bit better, the second started to come down with it!

I agree, when you haven't made any other changes, then that would suggest TH is the cause, but I've felt that some of these things were almost coming before we started so maybe could still be coincidence? Though maybe the changes we've made have speeded things up? Either way, I'm not complaining and hope there's lots more to come. Smile

DaftMaul · 15/03/2013 22:42

I always think it doesn't matter what caused any positive change in our dcs, the important thing is that they are improving!

Sounds as though you are doing really well, lookslikerain. Imaginative play will develop first with him and then him imagining in other objects doing stuff.

Badvoc, glad you are on the mend. Hope Tom is better soon too.

Ds is home tomorrow - bracing myself!

PrinceRogersNelson · 16/03/2013 19:28

Lookslikerain - we have been doing TH since January. And I have noticed that DD is much more reliable with going to the potty. Even y'day when she had a temp of over 39 degrees and was watching TV she came and said to me 'Mummy can you get me the potty please?'. 3 months ago she would have stayed where she was and just weed herself - she wouldn't have cared.

She is laughing much more. She is getting more and more of a sense of humour.

She is also pretending to be things. On all fours being a cat etc. Never did that before.

It seems like the same kinds of things are improving.

It does feel like her brain is clearing. But then I have to reign myself in and tell myself not to look to hard for the positive. Maybe I am seeing things that aren't really there Confused

shoppingbagsundereyes · 17/03/2013 17:38

ds ate chicken pie for dinner this evening! things are DEFINITELY changing in his brain. Since weaning he has refused things mixed togehter and has been very new food phobic. This evening he sat down dug his fork into the pastry, announced it was delicious but he wouldn't be eating any of the chicken filling. we ignored and carried on chatting. Two minutes later he announced the chicken was also delicious! He ate most of his plateful. So this month alone he's started eating the chicken pie, bolognaise sauce, choc ice Blush and potato bake.

So Tom is back to school today - still not on top form but better - and now da2 has got a high temp and cough.
Gah.
Am fed up :(
I feel like daubing a Red Cross on the door to warn people nit to cross the threshold ATM!
Tom has started doing lumosity again after his illness and is doing ok.
He breaks up on Friday for easier.
Good job really.
I think they both need a break from all the germs!

The weather is beyond a joke. Our dcs have the sick bugs too and I'm sure the damp conditions aren't helping - we are very ready for spring!

Hope you all feel better soon.

Daft - how did it go????

Prince and Shoppingbags - so great to read about your news - def. progress!

Badvoc · 18/03/2013 20:12

Sorry to hear that ruggles :(
So, the job in sept is a no go....she wanted me to be self employed and I can't be according to HMRC.
Bugger.
Oh well, back to the drawing board!
I know what you mean wrt weather....gorgeous here on Thursday and Friday, Saturday and yesterday, freezing fog today...what next? Sand storms and Plagues of locusts?
Hope your ds had a fab time daft :)

DaftMaul · 18/03/2013 22:30

Sorry to hear lots of bugs still around for some of you Sad. Hope they go quickly!

Well ds arrived home on Saturday. Walked through the door and handed me a bag of sick. Yuck! Apparently it was a bumpy flight home. Apart from that, it sounds as though he had a fabulous time. He bought us all presents. I got (apart from the sick!) a beautiful ring made from Venetian glass and a packet of spaghetti. He said, quite gleefully, that he had seen penis pasta in Duty Free!

He bought Dh a mug and had got some chocolate too but they had mysteriously disappeared he didn't know where Grin

On Saturday evening he said that he felt very sad that he would probably never have such a good holiday again. Sob Grin

Due to see Robin on Saturday. Have forgotten tracking since ds' return must buck our ideas up from tomorrow!

Shopping - hurray for eating a better variety! Ds seems to have no appetite at all at the moment!

DaftMaul · 18/03/2013 22:32

BV - sorry too about the job. I thought you just had to register to become self employed? Bit of a faff when Dh did it but didn't seem impossible.

Badvoc · 18/03/2013 22:37

I can't be self employed in that role.
And she doesn't want the hassle of employees.
:(
Think ds2 has croup :(

OP posts:
Ruggles · 19/03/2013 06:10

Daft, that is hysterical - your DS is a comedian. I love the idea of him eyeing up penis pasta in duty free but settling for spaghetti and then guzzling the choccie and then being sick and bringing it home - all very thoughtful!

Badvoc - I had a similar quandry with the revenue once and I had to write a letter explaining that the work wasn't available to an employee (as they didn't want employees) and that it was temporary and the risks and responsibilities were mine. Might not work, but worth a try. Ggrr to croup Sad

Badvoc · 19/03/2013 11:59

Ruggles...she already has an apprentice starting now.
It's ok.
Obv wasn't meant to be.
In other news ds2 rushed to hospital last night with croup.
Honestly, you couldn't make it up :(

OP posts:
Ruggles · 19/03/2013 14:02

Oh no, big hugs - you are right, you couldn't make it up Sad. Sorry about the job too.
PS - I am going to whisper, but the sun is shining here.

Badvoc · 19/03/2013 15:54

It is here too :)
Quite warm as well.
Ds2 has has a nap for the first time in months so he is def not well :)
Am ok about the job actually.
The way things are going I would be off constantly with ill dc! Or me. Or my parents.
It's going to be a loooong week again!
In the plus side am hoping a to book the hotel for my cousins wedding tonight :) dh and I have decided we are having a weekend away without dc as we will have been away on hols with them the week before...
Tom was asked if he wanted go. The conversation went like this:
Me: do you want to go to uncle xxx wedding Tom?
Tom: no, I don't like weddings
Me: it's a wedding party, not a wedding service
Tom: I don't like parties either!
:)
So they aren't going.
Daft...ewww about the sick bag, glad he had a good time.
Ruggles...hope your dc are in the mend?

Hello again. I am jealous of those of you with sun. It's currently snowing quite heavily here. Supposed to be spring, sigh... It has been a mixed bag so far this week. DS is doing really well but he's now been given an official autism diagnosis. I still don't agree with them but we've got it now and we might need it for support in nursery later in the year (or school after that). I didn't tell them that I disagree, just nodded. I also didn't tell them about TH, but figured its none of their business. And I don't want them thinking I'm some crazy mum who won't believe that her son has a problem. I do completely agree he has some issues; I just don't believe they are caused by autism. Anyway...

princerogersnelson thanks for posting about your DD. Really interesting that they are both starting to do the same things! I think so far this week, we've been pretending to be robots, worms, frogs and butterflies. And a lot of pretending to jump in muddy puddles. Peppa pig has a lot to answer for!

daftmaul absolutely loving your son! What a comic! He sounds like he's had a ball. You must be so pleased with him doing a fab trip like that, but I bet you're glad he's back now.

Oh, and badvoc, sorry to hear things are still a bit rubbish with you. Sometimes life just seems to throw it all at you at once, doesn't it. How is your DS2? Was it just a quick in and out visit to hospital? We have loads of weddings this year, but unfortunately, the DC are only invited to one of them and we don't have loads of childcare options.

Badvoc · 20/03/2013 07:28

Yes it was. Dose of oral steroids and back home.
He had a better night but still has a temp and is coughing a lot.
:(
Tom back at school again today, but who knows for how long the way this week is going!!

Badvoc - what a time you are having! Poor ds2 and you! A friend's son was susceptible to croup. The only good thing was that she became very good at spotting it and getting him help quickly when needed. He has since been diagnosed with dust/animal allergies (don't know whether that would be related?) and has inhalers. No croup attacks for years now thank goodness. At least the school holidays are not far away and you can all rest and recuperate and eat chocolate.

Lookslikerain - I'm sure you have mixed feelings about the diagnosis but probably better to have it rather than have the fight if required in the future. Will be very interesting to see what happens with TH. Love the pretending to jump in puddles Grin

Ds can be hilarious and it is lovely when he is in a light mood - shows the boy he should be! First night in his 'new' room last night. Great excitement and, I think, dd is planning on moving in with him - apparently, she is allowed to sleep under the bed!

PrinceRogersNelson · 20/03/2013 08:35

Lookslikerain - I hope you are feeling OK today about the diagnosis. It must be a confusing time. Be kind to yourself and please do keep me up to date with what your DS is up to. It would be great to see if he and my DD are making the same progress.

Badvoc - Sorry to hear about your son. Croup is awful. I once had an ambulance out for DS when he had croup. Felt quite bad as it cleared as soon as they arrived Blush
