special needs car seats

We pick our special adapted vehicle up on the 4th april, and we can then wheel ds up the ramp and strap his pushchair in, but we need a car seat for travelling on planes. he will be 3 in april and we are using a 'normal' car seat this year but are stuck as what to do from next year.We travel abroad a lot with him and hate the thought that we may not be able to do it soon. He cant sit ina plane seat cos he is quadriplegic and needs lots of support for his limbs. does anyone know of special needs car seats that last for a child over 3yrs and can they be strapped in with a lap belt?

Dizzy, we got our SN car seat from a place called the In Car Safety Centre in Milton Keynes:

They were recommended by lou33 (and I think the Bobath Centre in London recommends them), we thought they were great.

Twokids- i contacted a few airlines and explained that ds is never going to be able to sit in a plane seat and enquired what the options were. in the case of children with disabilities they make allowances. you cant book cheap flights online though cos you always have to ring to book and speak to the sn dept. they then send you a list of dimensions that the seat has to fit and it has to fasten in with a lap belt.

dd has one of the britax sn ones goes up to 11 and can be used with a lap belt. Can't wait till June though when we get new car and won't need as it is HEAVY
