I new it would happen eventually but he's enjoying saying it. I haven't reacted at all in hopes he bores of it. Is this the right strategy? He's
probably picked it up from his dad who sometime says 'oh b***ks'.

Now I'm waiting for worse ones to come along. Help!!!!

Send him round to mine and DS could teach him a dictionary full ;(
Last year SEN transport thought it a good idea to put a child from a BEST unit in the taxi with DS and so DS has now lots of colourful language!

to be fair, i think you'd be surprised how 'late' in life that really is Sad

the language i hear some NT children use is toe-curling at times Shock

ignore ignore ignore or maybe turn it into a game, if DC repeats, repeat another similar sounding word after it, he may pick that up in it's place?

he says bollocks, you say hollyhocks type of thing?

Thanks for the idea, I will try that.

I realise this is quite late but he was late with any speech, so I suppose the swear words come later too. :)

i didn't mean because of speech delay - i feel terrible now Blush

i meant because DD doesn't listen/mix with others she doesn't use their language

she's far too busy bossing them about

sorry again chuckey

My DS came home a couple of years ago(he'd have been about 6)Now because of his speech delay, others may not have understood what he said which was'shut up,shut up,f**k off'.

I didn't react.I just said 'oh dear, that's not very nice' in a normal voice.Because he didn't get a reaction (he seemed quite surprised, because the boy he learnt it from must have got a better reaction at school)he's not really said it since.

I like Unchartered's idea,but I couldn't do that.Because of DS's unclear speech,people would think he was saying the swear word ! Grin

Unchartered- please don't think I was offended, I was just musing that I suppose the swear words came later than most as did the speech. I think lots of his peers have been saying things for longer and luckily he's not picked them up. Sorry if I gave you the impression I was upset. :)

I haven't heard him say it at all today so the ignoring may be working!
