how do you request the LA file on your child?

just seen a discussion on another thread and i wondered how do you ask for the file? how specific do you have to be? i would like to see his sen case officer file plus the ed psych and also social services file - do you ask in all one letter? and how much does it cost?

Hi. You request each File you want, using a Subject Access Data Request.So, to see ds sen case file, & ed psych file, you write to your LA, & send letter to where the Files are held,(if you know).
You need to do a separate request for his social services file, to Head of Social Services Dept. in your LA.
The cost can vary, depending on how much paperwork there is, but usually, about £10 or £20, but no more than £50.
Just a thought, but it's maybe worthwhile requesting his school file as well, as you can then see what school are saying to various Depts. re your ds.
Also, when you make your requests, ask for paper copies, e-mails & telephone conversations. Ask for all Files to be Sent to you to look at in your own time. You do Not have to look at them at the school, or various Depts. HTH.

I wrote to the chief exec and asked for every single piece of information held on Ds AND me, and to provide it if it was about either of us despite not mentioning our names. Then I said I woukd require this information to include social services, education etc but also any information held outside of these depts.
