hi im new to this board

i have 2 daughters aged 5 and 2. they have always been very different our eldest daughter was always very advanced for her age so when we had our second daughter we knew she wouldnt develop in the same way.

she seemed to develop to the norm but at a slow pace, she was speaking 20-30 one words but by 2 years she had regressed and no longer uses words/eye contact/or able to have any understanding as well as noticing several other behaviours.

we waited 12 weeks for assessment from paediatrician consultant and were told she ticks all the boxes and has all the classic signs of autism she has been given a 4 month time frame in which to be diagnosed as she was reffered to asd team.

we dont really know much about autism other than what you read online but are aware that every child is different on the spectrum and ranges from mild to severe. we really dont know what to think we just hope to get her diagnosed so we can help her shes such a happy little girl at home but can get very distressed when we go out and when she is unable to express herself.

ive heard from a few parents with sons with aspergers syndrome of school age that are doing really well but dont know any parents with children in a similar situation to us boys or girls.

any advice or support would be greatly appreciated thanks :)

Welcome Iluvmybabyz
I don't have any practical experience of more severe autism as my DS has Aspergers, but if you are looking for someone in a similar situation nearby then try contacting the National Autistic Society to see if there is anything nearby. Also try contacting Contact a Family as they tend to know about local groups too.

hello and welcome.
I am sorry you are going through this. it is heartbreaking. I have 2 DDs and my eldest (4.5 years) has been diagnosed with autism last year. Not sure if her's is "classic" autism but she is on the lower functioning end of the spectrum.

happy to answer any questions you might have :)
