Brew Biscuit
Sending lots of positive vibes your way. Can you improve the polo shirt in any way to make it more desirable?

mishymashy · 04/09/2012 13:13

We face the same on Monday. A fantastic package is in place but..... he also had a fantastic package at nursery and they let him down so badlySad

My stomach is churning with yours!

Hi, I'm in the same scary boat! My DS (ASD) starts reception on Thursday. Have some support in place but no idea if it will be worth the paper its written on!

How was it nopink?

NoPinkPlease · 04/09/2012 17:19

It started badly - complete meltdown getting into uniform and literally had to force him into it and carry him out the door. After after 50 metres he had chilled out a bit and only tried to take his polo shirt off once more... By the time we got to school he was loving it - looking at the kids in the playground and saying 'my school' etc.

When we got to the playground, he said to us "you go work now, [name] stay here" and went in without a murmur!

Apparently he tried to wander a few times but he has 1 to 1 during September so it was ok. He was ABSOLUTELY knackered when he came out - just lay on the sofa for an hour!

He seems to have got his mojo back now

  • hasn't said anything about what they did of course... Not sure when we'll ever find out Grin

All in all, bar the uniform thing, it was ok... Not sure whether the uniform issue will carry on or not - roll on day 2 I guess. We're applying for a statement so we've got all that going on too.

Hopefully we'll all back on this time and laugh

Good luck with all your starts - perhaps we could do a bit of mutual hand holding - I find not knowing what's good practice and what I should expect really tough so sharing experiences would be v good. Thanks for all your messages too.

Ah glad he coped ok. I actually found once ds got used to the uniform he really liked the fact he could wear the same thing everyday! Grin

mymatemax · 04/09/2012 18:53

once my ds2 realised uniformed = school he was OK with putting it on.... but bloody non uniform days are a nightmare Grin

mishymashy · 04/09/2012 19:48

I'm so glad it went ok today. We had to get a pic of DS in his uniform for his social story to prepare him. It was decided the school couldnt use it as Ds was bright red, had obviously been screaming and was all tear stainedGrin

At least they know if we are an hour late its because i cant get his bloody uniform on!
I'm glad i'm not aloneWink

NoPinkPlease · 04/09/2012 19:56

Mishymashy, our social story pic looks like that too - it took his lovely nursery keyworker and all the other kids to come in to nursery in their big school uniforms to even get him near it for the pic...

The other posts have encouraged me that day 1 may be the worst and now uniform = something fun happening at big school we may be ok

It is a bit odd but I'm really glad I'm not the only one wrestling a uniform into place...Blush
Good luck!

I think i might have had a meltdown if someone tried to put me in a putrid bottle green jumper so maybe DS just has a fine sense of fashionWink

Is there a new starters thread on the SN board?

NoPinkPlease · 05/09/2012 07:57

Good luck today CatsDontCare - let us know how it goes... Smile

i remember ds having a meltdown about going to nursery in a heat wave without his tights. somehow he was already wrrestled into his polo shirt so he went to the carin pullups and polo shirt... and to dd's school first where I dressed him in the car at the side of the road.

ds has been to nursery in wellies stuff other parents at dd's school saying force him into shoes.. ho exactly do you force shoes on a biting scratching screaming rigid childs feet?

ds has been to school in his uniform and his neww shoes... once.(miracles do happen!) in about an hour I will try for day 2 Confused
