SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Can anyone help me with a name for my blog?

I want to start writing a blog about home schooling DS2, which starts next Wednesday. Have no problems thinking about what to write, but am stuck on a title. Some things that might help:

DS2 is an atypical autistic child - doesn't always conform to the label ( Like many others, I know). I did wonder about calling the blog 'Beyond the Label' but that doesn't indicate it's about homeschooling.
I want to focus, above all, on improving his communication skills.
Other areas - positive behaviour management, sensory integration.
Intending to run a holistic programme that combines Floortime, Intensive Interaction, Sensory Integration and VB. DS2 is already pretty interactive and engaged - I want to use this to motivate communication.

Any and all ideas most welcome!
TIA

I like your suggestion too, you could call it "homeschooling - asd beyond the label", or other similar ones, "homeschooling - working outside the box" etc, so you could keep your name but people would still recognise it as being related to homeschooling.

I like both of those - good idea to put 'homeschooling' first in the title. Late last night I also thought of 'Finding a Voice' - but maybe thats a bit over used? Could be 'homeschooling - finding a voice' but then it doesn't mention asd.
Hmmm...

home ed - on the spectrum and beyond?

Looking forward to reading the blog once it's up and running.

Will have a think .... Mind fog today I'm afraid:/ please let us know when you start, I'm very interested in homeschooling .

If I called it 'Beyond the Label: homeschooling a child with ASD' would that sound contradictory, as I'm labeling him in the second part?!?

I like 'Over the rainbow' and 'One step beyond' as well

Thanks - keep them coming - so much easier when a group is thinking!

And thanks also for saying you'll read it! Smile.

I don't think that sounds contradictory. In order to be "beyond the label" doesn't there have to be a label?

Why have you decided to home school?

I decided to take ds out of mainstream. One day I'll right about it and the title will be 'The green spot and other stories'.

StarlightMcKenzie · 01/09/2012 22:46

It might also be called 'Dear Viv'.

Viv was an old school HV I met at a children's centre who was old fashioned in her views, believed in the system but for some reason not corrupted by it, - she listened and referred ds when everyone else had failed to and that was the last we saw of her. I've often wanted to tell her our story.

Various reasons Starlight - but don't want to talk about them in detail on here for fear of being outed - one of the reasons for namechanging recently! In general - differences of opinion in how behaviour is interpreted and managed, fact that DS is almost non-verbal at school but speaks at home, lack of reinforcement to motivate him to extend communication at school...
