Red Letter Day for ASD DS!!!!!!!

Yesterday we had a bit of a major breakthrough with DS4. He came running into the bedroom, clutching a plastic dinosaur, which he waved in my face and spontaneously roared like a dinosaur at me. I screamed in mock surprise, so he did it again laughing his head off! He then proceeded to do the same with DH, DS3 and DD. All the while engaging with us and giving us brilliant eye contact! We were delighted to see him do this, as it was a huge thing for him to do. Today, I am happy to report that he was so impressed with his cleverness that he has spontaneously done it several times through out the day. Life with a hearing impaired, non-verbal 5yr old with Autism is never dull!!

WOW. There is all sorts of stuff he has to have understood to get that. Some 'Theory of mind' emerging for sure.
Well done mini-Bear

Hard to imagine that one day you'll be wishing the death of that dinosaur, - but that time will come - in abundance! Grin Great leap forward. So happy for you. And very well done ds4!!!!!

That's lovely! Smile

One small problem I've found with ASD is that my DS finds the same joke just as funny the 1,000,000th time as the 1st time.

SallyBear · 29/08/2012 19:31

Ellen, I think that you may have a point there.....!
