Hi Sgaia
It is more about the level of support that your daughter will need rather than the specific diagnosis that will decide if she will qualify for additional support.

Discuss your daughters specific needs with the school, if you feel she will need additional support to be able to be included and learn in the same way as non disabled children then it may be wise to apply to the local education office for a statement of educational needs.
Without knowing your childs level of ability it is difficult to advise.

Useful helpline.

Bristol expert from Cerebra

I would start by writing down everything extra or different which the current school does for your daughter. Including simple measures like toileting facilities, space for frame, etc. Get written evidence of this. Getting clear written reports of her current academic levels.

Making sure you have full copies of every single assessment and report ever done (especially psychology and education reports, important medical letters, IQ tests, anything neuropsychological or about complications like hydrocephalus, shunts etc). Don't worry if it's all in your language, priority is to collect it now, you can get it translated later if it's needed.

Example of local NHS services brochure. Final page says they can forward a copy in Spanish, might be worth a try asking, even if you're out if area.

Special educational needs quick summary

Disability living allowance quick summary. If you decide to apply, talk to the cerebra lady I linked to (above) about how to fill in the form.

And on arrival, register with a local GP (family doctor) and get them to refer your daughter here

Bienvenidos!!!

Someone else hs suggested the "Shine" charity helpline. THey may have an adviser or group close to where you will be living, who will be able to give you lots of local advice and help when you get here.

sgaia · 30/08/2012 12:10

I already had contact with charity shine but have not been very specific I'll try again, I think the biggest problem is that I do not live there yet but understand I can not go without knowing the conditions, so ask.
