I am going to an organisation in Chester on Thursday, they are going to help me fill in my DLA form

The lady sounds very nice on the phone

She asked what Disability Ellie had and I told her she had suffered brain damage after having Meningitis. But she asked does she not have a name for her illness

I said she also had Hydrocephalus. She still asked have the Doctors not given her a name

So I just said that she is delayed in everything, but no name

CP had been mentioned once but was ruled out (though I don't really understand why, as another child got diagnosed with it who I thought was very silimar to Ellie in her abilities)

I have applied for DLA twice now and have never worried about putting a name down!!

Just thinking out loud really. Is it not good not having a name?

I could think of a few.....'horrible' awful' unfair'!!!!!!!!!

We got DLA without any diagnosis. I just wrote, no diagnosis but these traits/ symptons etc. You could write "No specific diagnosis, but developmental delay as a result of meningitis" or something along those lines and then describe her difficulties.

You don't need a dx, just have to prove that your child needs more attention than the average child of the same age. Include evidence of this to support what you're saying as they like to hear it from the professionals as well as parents.

Hi, definately don't need dx, but you have to explain thoroughly your childs needs and difficulties, i got my hv to help me fill in the form on my second attempt (turned down the first time) we won the award and it was also backdated. might i suggest that you photocopy your form though, it helps when you have to re-apply
