Hi. Glad you have a break to look forward to. Just back, stressful break with ds who couldnt understand the idea of slot machines and spent all week attempting to extract money from us to win an ipad...
Nice to have had a break from real life tho.

FalseStartered · 24/08/2012 19:24

evening all

all the exam results talk has made me very trepidacious (fuck it if that's not a real word, i'm pooped) about the future, but you know what? all we can do is our best isn't it?

our 'girls' group did our 1st arranged-via-the-'net outing this week and i think it was a success! it was quite a surreal experience watching them not socialise but weigh each other up, no tension between them at all.

has anyone got any plans for this weekend? DD and i are going to attempt a trip into town tomorrow - we were going to try today but we had a visitor who brought crafting things and that was far more important Sad i'm too knackered to say 'no' at the moment.

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 24/08/2012 19:31

Hi all. A mixed week here. I'm signed off work following surgery on my hand so it was nice to spend the week with dd. but I can't do anything so I got major cabin fever, and had a row with my DM who has been helping me out. The less I see of my DM the better we get on and I've seen her every day for 10 days....

We have the slot machine thing too with dd Notactially. Doesn't matter if we let her waste some of her money to learn the hard way or refuse to let her touch them from the start. Tantrum every time.... Also for those claw grab machines and the ones that give you a complete piece of tat for only £1.

notactuallyme · 24/08/2012 19:41

Yes, forgot those. He actually, really politely, told reception they weren't working....
Hard work.

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 24/08/2012 20:25

LoL Grin

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 24/08/2012 20:28

Just realised that I forgot to pick dd's medicine up from the chemist and they are now closed until Tuesday. We might be able to eeek out what we have.... It's such a pain though.

Anyone know if you can buy paediatric movicol over the counter??

Evening all

Am back from two weeks in Ireland. Very stressful holiday, encompassing an accident that I thought resulted in a sprain, but now seems likely to have actually been a fracture, which of course I've been hobbling around on for two weeks. Off to A&E in the morning to get it xrayed. Ds1 also had what we think was a major gluten reaction which left him screaming in agony with stomach and bowel cramps for over 24 hours. Poor things was so scared and distressed. We still haven't identified the source, but once it had worked it's way out of his system he was fine. All good holiday fun! Hmm Grin

Went on a BIBIC course about handwriting skills today. It was really interesting and helped me not only understand where and why ds has problems, but also that his problems in that department are so many and varied that touch typing is definitely the right choice for him, despite the course leader saying it isn't an easy option and not always the right choice.

Having spoken to the course leader/OT for our area, we are going to have them round to do an assessment for ds1.

If you get chance to go on any of their free workshops it's well worth it. I met quite a few people from different charities and organisations today and found out some interesting things I didn't know.

In other news, we have had a letter from the ASD assessment unit calling ds for a SALT and OT assessment. How they intend to do a proper assessment for either in the time-slot they've given it I really don't know, but we shall see. This has come out of me pointing out that ds's supposedly multi-dip ASD assessment omitted SALT and that ds has never had a SALT assessment. Paed said he'd investigate and suddenly we get these appointments through. I'm thinking they've realised they made a cock-up in failing to do them in the first place and this will just be a tick-boxing exercise. Hmm

We have another one trying to win an Ipad. In our case via a Beano Golden Ticket. He is convinced he's going to get an Ipad, because it says every ticket's a winner. I have tried and tried to explain that he's more likely to get a badge or pen or something, but he insists he's going to get one of the prizes from the advert.

Chundle · 24/08/2012 20:43

Hi all just a quick one. Dd2 was 3 today! Had lovely day out a railway centre as she loves trains!! Am now suitably shattered after a few very hard weeks with the girls

moosemama · 24/08/2012 20:49

Happy Birthday Mini Chundle! Grin

Chundle · 24/08/2012 20:55

Thanks moose! She's kicking off right now AMD terribly overstimulated so must dash!

notactuallyme · 24/08/2012 21:16

Oh god moose - I haven't bought the beano because of the ticket. We have had a big meltdown tonight - prob tired after the holiday and emergency op beforehand.
Happy birthday from here as well x

moosemama · 24/08/2012 21:32

Wish I'd noticed the ticket thing before I'd bought them for the boys now.

Bought them on the ferry on the way out to keep them occupied and had two weeks of hell with no wifi and ds desperate to put his code in. I have so far deflected attempts to do it since we go home by insisting I'm 'working' on the laptop - but I fear this weekend will finally realise his disappointment.

LollipopViolet · 24/08/2012 21:32

My accounting course is going well - half of the 6 students (including me) have a disability or SN (just luck, not arranged like that). One lady has a pacemaker and various heart problems, there's me with my eyes and another lad in the group has dyspraxia.

Was sort of nice to be around people who "get" that sometimes life can throw up some challenges. Rest of the group is also lovely :)

I'm very much looking forward to going again on Wednesday, although I am annoyed because the course starts at 9 and I'm not allowed to use my bus pass, that I have because of my disability, til 9.30. But those who pay for company bus passes can use them all the time! Angry

moosemama · 24/08/2012 21:33

Cross-posted. Glad the course is going well Lollipop.

Angry for you re buspass though.

notactuallyme · 24/08/2012 21:47

Yes, well done lollipop.
Ds continuing to find reasons to get upset - does anyone else have to deal wih namecalling? (You idiot woman) etc. Have to keep reminding myself its because he can express himself.

LollipopViolet · 24/08/2012 21:48

I've just started an AIBU on the bus pass issue.

I'm SO going to get eaten alive.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 24/08/2012 22:03

Hello all.
Nice to see you back, moose. Two weeks weeks without WIFI!! How did they survive?

Happy birthday mini Chundle.

Lola, does the chemist have the prescription? What a pain!

The girl's social group sounds good, unchartered. Wish they had something similar (but not just for girls!) around here. DS2 goes to scouts but he's pretty much on the edge of everything.

Notactually, my DS2 and 3 are slot machine demons. I don't mind the 2p ones, but the rest can get very expensive.

Sign, thought you were name changing to something more appropriate! Smile

It's been a strange old holiday. The boys have been with their dad quite a lot but I'm getting better with it. We saw Diary of a Wimpy kid at the cinema today. Really funny and could so relate to the trying desperately to get them to do something healthy outdoors and not just stick to computer games all holiday long!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 24/08/2012 22:04

Oo, AIBU, lollipop?! Braver than me!

LollipopViolet · 24/08/2012 22:08

Ellen, I'm not brave I'm stupid!

Although, people seem to be being quite nice Thread here for those brave enough to look

notactuallyme · 24/08/2012 22:17

Oooh ellen was it any good? Ds' cinema card came thro so might think about it. Lollipop I am not going anywhere near aibu!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 24/08/2012 22:25

Yes, notactually. It's a U rating but is more aimed at 8 - 13 yos than little DC. My nearly 15 yo DS1 said it was a lot better than he expected. Mind you, DS2 and 3 have read all the books and seen the first 2 films so it was a pretty safe bet for them. Smile

I'll pop along to AIBU for a nosy, lollipop.

notactuallyme · 24/08/2012 22:29

Thanks! All is quiet now. Phew.

LollipopViolet · 24/08/2012 23:02

Ha! I think I'm about to hide my own AIBU thread! You'd think I'd learn to only vent in here by now, wouldn't you? Once again I feel bad for using a pass I have every right to use!

Anyway, going to ignore them, got some lovely things planned next week, friend's wedding a week tomorrow, an ice hockey related evening on the Sunday, and then holiday on the 7th September.

notactuallyme · 24/08/2012 23:43

Yes its weird how random internet opinions can make you feel crap. Hit the hide button.
