Does a diagnosis report have to be current?

We might need a statement if ds isn't coping with school. Some changes have been made and I am hoping he might be more settled this year. However I also know it could all go wrong so I may have to get a statement but will the 2012 diagnosis have to be redone?

Hello,

Someone more knowledgable than me will come along and give you a definitive but from our personal experience, you only get one diagnosis report and then anually check ups with the Paed's which are summarised and documented.
My dd was dx with Autism just after her 3rd birthday and the original diagnosis report was put forward as the Paed's contribution to her statement alongside more up to date reports from nursery/speech thearpist/OT, Autism Outreach and Ed pysc all of these people specifically came out and observed as part of the statementing process.

We have just gone through our 1st annual review and again only a few resubmitted reports as her diagnosis won't change, only how it presents in the school setting which is best explained by the school and us taking advice and recommendation from the available services.

We have a statement for Ds which was given in 2011 but his Dx was in 2007. The original dx stands, and by then we had plenty of other evidence as to why he needed a statement, so in answer to your question I don't think so unless the DX is likely to change.

DS2 was DXed in 2005 with ASD, had only two 12 monthly reviews with the paed and has only seen her again last year due to a suspected seizure. Once ASD, always ASD...

That's good thank you I was just worried we might have to go through dx all over again. We have consultant psychiatric report and SALT report so I will have a look at statement process so I am up to date if I need to get it done.
