DS turned down for statutory assessment

Surprise Surprise.
The reasons are : DS is working at well above the level expected for a pupil of his age and that the school can call on the additional needs service team to request help if they need to.
They dont acknowledge any of his difficulties at all.
Im going to ring my IPSEA rep today to let him know what they have said and see what we can do from here, they also said that we need to have a multiagency meeting to discuss DS education, well we had one of those 2 weeks ago and it was agreed that he would have home tuition , which hasnt materialised. Angry

So in summing up what they say basically because DS is a bright boy -he can cope, what a load of tosh.

Jenk - I keep following your threads, and I'm sorry that the LEA aren't helping with this (yet!). Good luck with IPSEA.

yes,definately going to appeal, will speak to ipsea as soon as dd is asleep!

Jenk1, the fact that ds is going to have home tuition, surely this tells them something.

This doesn't make sense, can the school cope without any help. I t appears to me that a child has to get really bad before they receive any help. larsxx

I know, i just dont get it, the letter says that DS is working at the level above expected for his age-so what?
Does this mean that because he is bright that he doesnt have any problems, AND the fact that he hasnt been in school since Nov 05, surely that should tell them something, they have medical evidence backing up what we say that he simply cannot cope with the socialisation side and peers of his own age-he needs help and he will only get that help with a statement.

They say that the school can call upon the additional needs team-that doesnt mean that the school will do what the team says though, ive seen this before.

Spoke to my IPSEA man and he said that nothing surprises him anymore, "dont let them batter you down, the only way you will get through this is to fight them,lets take them to the tribunal"

So now i am waiting for a key worker to be appointed, oh and something else, the letter i received yesterday has no date on it Shock

Jenk1,

I think your only choice now is to take the LEA to tribunal. You should be aware as well that many cases that go to tribunal do have a successful outcome in favour of the family.

I am sure IPSEA will help you with regards to this.

Go get 'em!!!. They deserved to be nailed Angry!!.

I believe the percentage of tribunals won by parents is something like 90%!

The specialist has just been in touch, he is coming to see DS on 27th March Smile

Jenk1, sounds really positive and just mention IPSEA to the LEA, see how their face turns Shock. I did this before my ds got his statement in otherwords they knew i was ready to take them on. Hope all goes well. larsxx
