Devon based charity, Lifeworks, is holding a free surfing event for 8-25 year olds with learning disabilities on 15th September in Polzeath Cornwall. We have spaces left. If you are interested please register at www.lifeworks-uk.org/bbeventdetails or call Alison on 077 1787 4495.

We've never been to the polzeath event but breaking the barrier is really good. It's how ds1 (severely autistic) originally started surfing - something which has been completely life changing for him.

Breaking the barrier is mentioned a few times on my blog (link in profile for anyone interested).

The first year breaking the barrier ran I refused to try as I didn't think they'd cope with ds1 and I thought he would refuse. The second year it ran he had his first go - we went annually just to btb events for three years, then he started more regularly - now goes all the time. Would never have tried without breaking the barrier.

They really do cope with even the most challenging of children :)
