AIT question/help

Im looking at AIT at the moment for ds7 and just wanted to know, for those of you that have used it if it helped with loud noise issues as in desensitised your dc.
My ds struggles with hand dryers (only loud ones)??

It helps with loud noises. It doesn't desensitise them it cures the underlying problem (which is hypersensitive hearing)

All 3 of my children have done it at the Sound Learning Centre. I have the before and after audiograms for all 3 of them, and it has hugely reduced the amount of hypersensitive hearing all of them have.

I posted the audiograms of DD here (Here's wasn't the worse - DS1s was)

Not sure if you now how to read them, but if you look at the left ear you can see that pre-treatment she had hyper-sensitive hearing between 1000 and 3500 ( the line above zero). Post treatment she had no readings above zero - ie all her hypersensitive hearing is gone.

The behaviour changes in all 3 of them also fits with they audiograms. ie they can all hear better now, and don't suffer from loud noises anymore.

Woo hoo - I was hoping you'd answer indigo as I'd remembered you saying your dc had done this therapy. I've had a look at the audio results and I can't believe the difference between the two.
I have all the info from the sound learning centre but it's not practical for us in terms of travel. I have found another centre that's NHS approved, closer to home called the Light and Sound centre - its more expensive but I may have a tiny tiny chance of persuading the GP to apply for funding - worth a go.
If you don't mind me asking what improvements did you see with your dc - here's my ds issues see if it sounds familiar
Hand dryers
Shouting in a hall during PE but not outside
Children screeching in a confined space
Very distracted in a noisy classroom
Loud scooters
Balloons popping

DS1 - used to walk out of class up to 5 times a day because it was too noisy. This stopped after AIT.

(Now he only walks out during Sex Ed :) )

He had all the classic hypersensitive stuff you mention. All vastly reduced afterwords. (His audiogram still shows a small amount of hypersensitive hearing)

But the small amount of hypersensitive hearing he can cope with. ie fire alarms. Used to be cause for running out of school and crying with pain in a corner of the field. Now he only is the first person to leave the class :)

DD - Began to learn to read. Before AIT I genuinely thought she'd never be able to read. She didn't really show hypersensitive hearing problems.

DS2 - Also had the hypersensitive hearing problems you mention which have now improved. Also his teacher reported he hears better. ie no longer has to have instructions repeated.

He had and still has problems with fire alarms. However hearing can improve for up to 9 months after treatment, and we've done it more recently than that.

To be fair, not everyone on MN has had the same good results I've had. But seeing as 3 out of 3 of my children have had excellent results with it, I personally think it's highly worth doing.

Yeah I've seen previous threads where there have been mixed reviews - but we are at the stage where I have to do something - most things I can teach him but I can't teach how to combat over- sensitive hearing. The thing is when he is listening he's just south more engaged. It's got to be worth a shot

I just wanted to get an update on how your 3 children did with AIT. I'm considering this for my 3 yr old ASD, Non verbal, selective hearing and probably selective receptive language too (I think it's selective but it could well be something else - he usually responds if I hold a sweet).

I wanted to know after how long you noticed improvements, what kind of improvements, any improvement on receptive and expressive language, focus and were they permanent?

I've read so many post, for some it did nothing and for some the improvements were not permanent. I thought I'd approach you as you seem to have experience with the SLC.
