ABA for social and communication difficulties

DS (nearly 4) was recently diagnosed with ASD. He scored on all social and communication points on the DISCO assessment. Had speech delay, but is making great progress though he does use language oddly. After a year at preschool he still has little interest in his peers and has only on a few occasions every spoken to any of them. He does however have good relationships with adults. He also will only follow his agenda, and is simply not motivated to follow instructions or join group activities. However, he has no behavioural issues like restricted interests, love of routines, stimming, sensory issues, obessional interests. Everything I read about ABA focusses on the behaviour issues. Does anyone have any experience of it for social and communication difficulties? Any advice or tips?

Have to be brief but, yes, you can absolutely use ABA successfully for social/communication! This makes up about 90% of the programme for my ds. We do the Verbal Behavious approach.

I am away at the moment but pm me if you want more info and I'll be very happy to I've you more info when I'm back.
