Hi all,

well just been to the school doctortoday, finally after all these months of waiting and cancelled appointments.

Chloe has officially been diagnosed with OPPOSITIONAL DIFIANCE DISORDER!!!!

So now she has been referred to see a child psychiatrist and also he is referring us for extra support at home!!!!!!

So i now finally feel as though we are being listened to rather than dismissed as her being just a naughty child!!!

he has however warned that it does get worse with age, and that stratergies need to be implemented from asap.!!!!

so i would like to thank you all for your support over the past.

That's great butty that you've got a diagnosis, can't be easy for you though.

I've got a feeling my dp has oppositional defiance disroderGrin

jenk1 · 10/03/2006 13:54

really pleased for you that you are finally getting somewhere with Chloe after all this time.

Go easy on yourself now because its a bittersweet time when our little ones are dx,d even though we know there is something wrong.

good news about dx Smile

lars · 10/03/2006 14:04

Butty, I am really pleased you have got a diagnoisis. I did have a diagnoisis for my ds which was O.D.D, but now with further assessments they have found out it's ASD,but he is still very oppositional. I feel sad that it gets worse wit age, my worse fear I'm afraid:(

I understand the boundaries have to be very clear, etc. Have have the school reacted to the news? larsxx

macwoozy · 10/03/2006 14:43

Sorry butty, a bit thoughtless of me to make a joke of ODD, I know it's not a laughing matter.Blush

Thanks for all your messages.

Its been a hectic weekend so not been able to come on and see the messages.

I have now arranged a meeting at the school to see what to do from now with regards to the DX.

As mentioned she does not really behave badly in school, although she did score pretty high on the conners report for oppositional behaviour last year, of which she got 7 from the school and 10 for home!!

The doctor has also explained that this could be causing some of her academic problems in school as well, although not entirely shore how the 2 are related.

But for now, i am happy that something has finally been said, although i want it confirming in writing before i jump up and down!!!

Thanks again for your messages.

Hey thats great news Butty.

I have considered ODD for Dd but am waiting it out at the mo to see if the things I have implemented from my parenting course have any effect.

butty · 13/03/2006 09:52

Hi Nutcracker,

How is the parenting course going???

The doctor has reccomended that we are kept on at the family centre as after 12 weeks we have made 1 huge acheivement!!! She will now get ready for school in the morning without causeing world war 3, although it is taking bribes to do it!!!!

I dont entirely agree with the stratergy, but is saving arguments in the morning, although it does not always happen, it is better than usual.

Now i just need another 100 bribes for the rest of the dayGrin

I am going to search the internet for ideas on how to handle ODD and see if their are any reccomended organisations for the disorder??

Hope you are doing ok at the mo, speak to you soon.

Hiya,

well a quick update.

Chloe and myself have been discharged from the behaviour therapy, although the pead has reccomended that we both stay on the courseAngry

Apparantly, they don't have the workers to keep us on, so they have referred her to the childrens centre, which is great as this is aimed for children with social, emotional and behavioural problems.

She will attend one evening a week for 1.5 hours, where she will get to play with others and also have 1 2 1 support for 15 minutes each session.

Unfortunately, i am back to square 1 with regards to social services as have now been discharged altogether. So no support for myself regarding either children!!!!!

I am glad that chloe has been referred on, but now there is limited chance of help at homepSad

OH MY GOD!!! It just gets more difficult!!!!!!!

I have just got off the phone from the new school nurse who has replaced the old one, bearing in mind i didn't even know she was leaving.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, she has been reading chloes case files only to tell me that she is a ADHD/ADD nurse and that she fears that chloe has been misdiagnosed!!!!!!Shock

She has now said that working with girls of ADHD for the past 7 years has led her to believe that chloe has indeed got ADHD.

She has just explained that girls are not as hyper as boys and are more willing to conform in school due to the structure etc...

She thinks that her academic is an indicator due to her not working without support and struggling with reading etc....

So now, she is sending a conners questionnaire to the school and has asked the doc who has just dx'ed her with ODD and confirmed it in writing today to hang back whilst the whole process starts again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am starting to get a bit fed up of all this!!!!!!!

Will keep you all updated.

Oh Butty how Angry you must feel, on the one hand you must want chloe to have the right dx but on the other if they had listened to you in the first place you wouldnt be in this situation.

Blossomhill · 20/03/2006 21:57

Butty - poor you, what a rollercoaster ride this whole dx process is :(

I just wanted to say that it's very common for ODD to be a co-morbid condition to Adhd. Have you read the Adhd book by Christopher Greene? It is very good and talks at great length about Adhd and other conditions that go along side it.

It has always been a big ? as to whether my dd has Adhd or if it is all part of her communication disorder. Am going to the Adhd clinic next month. Do you have one of those where you live?

The conors is a great indicator for Adhd so it's good that the nurse is putting this into place.

Good luck xx

butty · 21/03/2006 10:46

Hi Thanks for your messages,

BlossomHill, I have just been reading more about ODD and on many of the sites, it more or less states that it is usually associated with ADD and ADHD!!!

the thing that has got to me is that chloe's pead had spoken to the ADHD consultant at the ADHD clinic, of whom after reading over chloe's file and case work was addamant that she does not have ADHD.

Now more confusing is along comes a school nurse that is an ADHD specialist, who is addamant that chloe has ADHD!!!!!!!Shock

Both are proffessionals in the field and yet both are definately on different wave lenghs regarding the whole situ!!!!!!!

i was happy that we were finally getting some where and now i feel it's going to be a war between the specialists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
